I'm currently working on PCGS' Basic US Coin Design (No Gold) Registry Set, but two opportunities presented themselves separately to own these coins, and I jumped on them. One was the result of an unexpected walk-in to a brick & mortar shop while traveling, the other was one that caught my eye online.
1888 $1 Gold Indian Princess
1854 $3 Gold Indian Princess
Both are in safely housed in PCGS holders. Thoughts on these selections? I'll follow up with the grades and prices paid this evening. Both photos were taken with an iPhone 6 setup, so unfortunately they will not be nearly as informative as TrueViews.
P.S. One of these coins has a CAC sticker
Cheers

MS64 and AU55 would have been my guess. Nice ones!

My guess is 62 on the first and AU 50 on the second.
Edit: grades posted. At least I wasn’t far off...

I like the dollar but don't care for the three.
I like the 1888!
well, I've been wrong before

The G$3 has some cloudy milky areas. Hard to judge from those pics but it may have been puttied.

Very nice gold coins.... I like the 1888 especially...You have been bitten by the gold bug...no cure... you just have to keep buying.... Cheers, RickO
That's definitely a valid concern to consider given the photos. My amateur camera and lighting setup may have something to do with it. The 'milky' areas [both sides of the 3, under TA in STATES] are reflections on the plastic slab. The other lighter areas [behind UNITED, OF, btw. 12 and 3 o'clock on the reverse] show luster in hand. I'd also assume that anyone taking the effort to putty the coin would have filled in the nick under the T in STATES. Plus, CAC gave their seal of approval, although of course they are not infallible, as many here would be quick to point out.
Anyway, thanks for mentioning this. I wasn't really familiar with the term as this is my first foray into gold, so it was helpful to read more about this and have it on my radar.
Nothing is as expensive as free money.
Both nice coins. I like them both at the stated grades. A $3 is a great piece to have in your collection.
Just reshot the $3 with an iPhone 11 Pro — this photo is more true to life. PCGS AU53 CAC
Nothing is as expensive as free money.
And here's the reshot $1 while I'm at it — PCGS MS63
Nothing is as expensive as free money.
Like both of them.
Also agree with Ricko, you’ve been bitten by the gold bug, for which there is no cure.
Can’t wait to see your next purchase which will likely be much sooner than you thought.
