And you probably celebrated your first birthday on the day you were born. ;):D

The never ending debate, whose resolution is clear and logical to most reasoning individuals. Oh well... I am sure we will go through this again when 2030 arrives....Cheers, RickO

Doesn't it depend on where you start, to be able to call an end. I started last night and was feeling no pain by the end of the Texans game. :) Anyways, I never got a chance to throw in my 2 cents before apparently the "Somebody done Somebody Wrong Song" played. Happy new year decade or not. Cheers!

wow, I was surprised to see my name invoked, but all is well!! it has been a good year thus far and I see nothing on the horizon getting in the way of that goodness continuing. there is a saying which sorts this out for me:

--- Everyone has a right to their own opinion but noone has a right to be wrong with the facts.

    Peace Out, baby!! B)

    Jewish calendar?

    Buddhist calendar?

    Islamic calendar?

    Lunar calendar?

    Mayan calendar?

Just celebrate whatever the heck you want to celebrate.

FWIW, to me the decade of the '20s will include any year that starts with 202x.

A response from five of my favorites. I'm having a great year already. Think I'll go look at some coins now :)

He could have just as easily said 8 decades and 7 years.........

A score denotes an amount not a starting or ending time.

This is critical, because for many, it is their LAST decade.

I have heard that people struggle to live past the big holiday / birthday / etc. date.

I am on a quasi Band of Brothers Army group and we lost one guy on the 2nd and one on the 4th. At this rate, our next meeting will be in a phone booth. :'(

A better question is why he used 1776 instead of 1789 as the starting point?

Doesn't matter at all to me, because where I start I always end up.

    Technically the 2020s begin Jan. 1, 2021.

Just like Cents being called Pennies. One is correct, the other more common.

So JFK was elected in the 1950's

he was elected in 1960 which is the 10th year of that decade. it's the way we count with the base 10 number system that messes with your head.

also, the word "decade" merely defines a period of 10 years that can start at any time. referring to "the decade of the 1950's only means a 10 year period where each year starts with 195_ and really has nothing to do with how time is counted on a calendar.

but, I digress. everyone is free to think how they choose.

I love it when knowledge and common sense collide. And its a rare bird and a thing of beauty when it flows from one mouth.
