Being a part of this Forum is a joy...

Hi guy's, Be prepared to read something sort of off topic. This has been on my mind a lot, how 'bout anyone else? The Forum can be very entertaining, as well as, educational. This Forum is a joy to be a part of. Now, here's what I'm getting to. What's really the best part of being here is, " THERE ARE NO COMMERCIALS!" Really. While watching the boob tube lately, all you see are COMMERCIALS! I think even more than usual. What makes it even more frustrating is the fact that the majority of these are just plain STUPID. ARRRRR. My local news, in the 30 minutes of the program, I think at least 13 minutes were commercials. I realize some of you members don't even watch T.V. and that's great. But for the one's like me that do, aggravating! That's why being on our Forum is enjoyable. NO commercials. Just speaking my piece. Sorry!
One More Thing... If anyone wants to join me in investing in a t.v. channel that excludes any commercials, notify me. We'll make millions! LOL :#

We do have occasional commercials, legends and dimeman come to mind. Other than that I agree with what you are saying. Thanks!

If I recall correctly, the standard some years ago was 22 minutes of programming and 8 minutes of commercials per half hour. Sounds like that has degraded. My solution is DVR. Makes a world of difference. I can watch a football game in about 90 minutes.

Radio is even worse. I couldn't stand the commercials any more. XM Radio is the way for me now.

I try to watch this gold rush on discovery channel. It's nothing but commercials. The best is the weeks I miss the episode because I record on the DVR. Then I can go back and fast forward through the commercials and just watch content. I haven't timed it but I would be shocked if there is more than 20 minutes of show during the 1 hour timeslot. The sad part is I pay a monthly premium for this trash.

My job requires a bunch of windshield time in vehicle. I am in a somewhat remote area and radio signals are few and far between so I opt to subscribe to the satellite radio just to keep my sanity. No commercials there, on the music stations anyway.

TV is background noise. I enjoy reading this again and learning.

This reminds me, about the commercials, I of course say this in jest. I told my wife, the best part about Heaven is, there are NO commercials up there! Like I said, tongue in cheek. We all know what's the best part of Heaven. o:)

This forum and Youtube are two places I visit often. As for TV, mostly Netflix and on-demand stuff mostly.

It's funny you mentioned watching Youtube and Netflix. Today, I signed up for a 30 day free trial on Pureflix! No commercials. LOL

If it's recorded on my DVR, I can skip the commercials. If it's live, I have to mute the commercials. I understand there is a need to have sponsors, but ads have eeked into every corner of our lives and have overgrown everywhere like wild weeds.

There is a commercial right below this message at the bottom of your screen...it's an ad, with a link. You have the option of clicking on it or not. That's how Facebook started, now the borders are filled with sponsors throughout.

I enjoy watching Amazon Prime video offerings with no adverts. Jack Ryan (CIA), Marvelous Mrs Maisel (comedy), The Expanse (SciFi)....good quality stuff!

I do not watch TV very much...Mostly special news (such as the recent elimination) issues or some political analysis (used to really enjoy Krauthammer)...Mostly active doing things - when not active, internet or books...and I still have a stack of books in my 'to read' pile...I guess I buy them faster than I read them. Commercials are like eating watermelon... you have to spit out the seeds.... :D Cheers, RickO

Agree, rarely watch TV at all except for some sports and news. Not only are there a ton on commercials but in our area I think 50% or more are taken by 5 or 6 slip and fall attorneys. BTW, I love the forum for the opportunity to learn from many of you with lots of knowledge and experience. Thanks to all that have helped me so far with answers or older posts I have waded through for an answer.

The DVR allows TV viewing without commercials. Haven't watched a commercial in a long time. I'll watch the ones on the upcoming SuperBowl. There have been many many unexpected changes stemming from my recent retirement - one is that I strangely watch far less TV. Almost none....

One thing that is really apparent on this forum is the kind, polite and knowledgeable members that make this a special place. For some time TV has not been the place for me to spend my valuable time.

This forum has some of the most knowledgeable people in the hobby and most are very willing to help out with opinions, grades, diagnostics and so on. With that being said, there are always a handful of people who are the equivalent of starving fire ants stuck in your crack. That's true of any online forum.

I've always enjoyed this forum a lot. Even in the old days with some of the controversial people and topics. I never ended up enjoying being ATS all that much. Wasn't the same. That's why I'm back now
