1956 was a special time for a ten year old...
Sadly one of my idols of that year passed away on New Years Day. Don Larsen of the NY Yankees.
I was a west coast boy, south of SF in Redwood City at the time the world series came around. The Yankees against the Dodgers. NY against NY! We kids all huddled around the radio for the series (at least as much as we could). It was on TV but there were no TV's in our entire neighborhood. Mom's and Dad's understood how important this was to us "boys". We got to listen even during mealtime...Oh it was great to be ten in '56.
Then it all happened in game 5. Saturday, no school, and just 7 of the best friends there ever were. Jimmy, Philip, me, Howard, Joel, Mike and Ricky....all sandlot players with baseball in out blood.
Don Larson was pitching for the Yanks and all the stars aligned all at once, for the only perfect game to ever be pitched in a World Series....27 batters by the Dodgers and 27 outs. Perfection.
RIP Mr. Larsen

One of my former co-workers stated to me many years ago that the World Series perfect game took place on a Monday (we always did a specific job task on a Monday). The Internet seems to confirm that.
Memory trips me up more and more now, and I am only 60. Sorry.
!!!
Yep... it was a Monday....and I recall the excitement over that.... My Dad was a Yankee fan and his boss was a Dodger fan....However, he told me even his boss was rooting for Larsen during the last innings....Cheers, RickO
I wonder now how we heard the game on the radio if it was a Monday......hmmmm, played hooky at 10? My memory fades but the record stands....lol
