1968 s proof Kennedy,,, worn out die?

Part of the R and the S are missing seems to be worn out die, I thought proof dies weren't used to the point of wearing out.

Its not worn out - its over polished. (The die may have shown defects/wear that required such heavy polishing).

I would encourage new posters/collectors to spend some time reading other threads. It's a great way to learn. ;)

There was one posted recently on a proof Mercury dime with a heavily polished die.

Exceedingly common, at least it has a tiny amount of silver content.

Die polished for longevity and the results are in/on the coin.

Die polish, as stated above.... I have seen this occasionally on later Kennedy's....attention to detail seemed to diminish a bit... Cheers, RickO

Put it on ebay and call it the "Fish Hook Motto" variety ;-)

    Philately will get you nowhere....

I wouldn't say these are exceedingly common. A 1968-S Kennedy, yes...one with polishing like this, I don't think so.

I've looked at an awful lot of 1968 proof sets and can't say I've ever noticed one with polishing like this.
