Wondering if there is any know mint error of 3cent piece

I am a fairly new collector. Recently I came across a 1888 3 cent piece with what appears to be a mint error! I've tried to research but have come up with nothing. Please let me know what you think.

Try to find a 3 cent piece without a mint error. That's the real challenge. Lots of die clashes, rotated dies, misaligned dies.

That looks like a die chip. Generally not an error anyone cares about.

    Welcome to the forum.

Many die cracks, RPDs, DDOs and DDRs known as well.
Probably the most detailed book is by Gifford.
Very few books were made, but it is available free on the Newman Numismatic Portal:
    https://nnp.wustl.edu/library/book/555545
If you want to buy an in-print book on the 3 cent nickel, there is the Fletcher and Flynn book for about $30:
    https://brooklyngallery.com/coin-books.html?cat=134 (or available on ebay)

If you would just like to see some fairly dramatic cud examples on 3 cent nickels:

For fun, I studied die cracks on the 1866, using online photos from auction sites and PCGS CoinFacts.
Gifford identified about 19 die pairs (a couple of these are general groups).
I identified about 52 die pairs with at least 2 example coins for each,
or 81 die pairs with 1 or more example coins each.

Agree with the others. Three cent pieces exhibit all kinds of mint die errors. It's a great set to work on.

    Yes. They're lots of fun.
Add Shield Nickels to the mix-- interesting coins that the mint was trying to figure out how to strike.
Lots of clashing, chipping, die breaks, repunched dates/letters, doubled dies.
And you can get many of these for a reasonable price (including lower mintage dates) because there are few collectors interested in completing date sets.
