Different 1964 Kennedy Silver Half Dollars

I recently got these five coins. Five have the teardrop tails on the Number 4 and one does not which seems odd as they were all
Produced the same year? Some forums show this Number 4 to be significant? I’m very new to coins and appreciate any help. I got these as part of a recent house purchase.

I can't tell from the pictures if you may have an accented hair variety. I have never used the 4 for an indicator.

You have to realize the the 1964 Kennedy was in such high demand for years that the mint was allowed to keep producing the 64 date well into 1966 so durring those three years there are many varieties.

I've always wonder if any 64 dated Kennedy's were struck on 40% planchets, if there are any I haven't heard about one,

You should at least even your coins out so they can be viewed better.

  • Thank you for the info on how to take pics

It is very easy to get a partially filled serif. There is no recognized variety with different 4's

You have 3 1964 and 3 1964-D 90% silver half dollars. They look like normal business strikes based on the photos.

Hi and Welcome To School! I say school because you'll be taught in many areas. Such as, in ethics, manners and in business. Ask any questions and don't forget to post often. The most important thing is to have FUN! I see you've been already taught in the photo taking aspect. That's ok. The members here are very knowledgeable in coins, all sorts of coins. Your Kennedys are a great start. I'd advise you to buy a Cherrypickers' Guide, focusing on the JFK's. Maybe, If you're really seeking the Kenneys/Franklins, I would seek for the Rick Tomaska book. Good luck and once again, welcome to the forum.-joey :)
