Is there a coin or token in your gift giving tradition?

ParadisefoundParadisefound Posts: 8,588 ✭✭✭✭✭

Merry Christmas Everyone! May the blessing of all kinds be yours always ........ now and beyond <3

Did you include a coin or token for your love one (s) this year or are you expecting such gift from your spouse?

My nieces and nephews will be pleasantly surprise to find ASEs as Christmas gifts from Miss Santa this year; that is my hope BTW knowing what they really want (not need) AirPods / Echo etc etc gadget wise :/

No coins going or coming this year.....I am the patriarch of my family, and only one nephew was interested in coins... and now he is on a hiatus (females always win ;) ).... @Paradisefound .... Merry Christmas.... I hope your holidays are filled with family and friends....Cheers, RickO

My wife loves gorillas, so I picked up this Congo round and an ornament capsule so she can hang it on the tree.

@Paradisefound, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Back in the early 70s all the neices and nephews got 1 oz. silver art bars for Christmas every year (no ASEs back then). I tried to recall them all in 1980 and again in 2011 but no one responded. o:)

We have a gift exchange amongst my siblings and our spouses on Christmas Eve, and one of my brothers-in-law always ends up with a proof American Silver Eagle and a case of Sam Adams beer. The rules of the exchange are kinda like a big game of "shaft" your buddy, and it's cutthroat, but he always ends up with that gift.

I am a Year of the Pig baby, and I have five of the 1995 silver coin from Macau.

Other than that, I have never gotten into it.

My mother, now well into her senior years, continues to buy me a mint set and proof set every year. All things considered it is a very thoughtful gift.

My daughter has started collecting America The Beautiful quarters and she is working on a Dansco type set. I'm trying to restrain myself from over-gifting. It's SOOOO tempting to slip a Trade Dollar into her stocking ...

LOL! NO. NO no no no. No. While I love the name, I haven't eaten there in 10 years or more.

Dos Reales is a favorite of one of my sisters who lives on the west side of town.

I eat Pizza somewhere on Campus when I am in Chambana.

I gave my one year old (on New Years Day) niece a ASE and my nephew to be born in January a rocketship and a silver proof set.

My father would give the current year Proof set to us. We would sit at the kitchen table and transfer the coins to our color Capital holder. My color was white. I still have them all.

Children receive a coin when visiting from out of town.
My dad doesn't know when it started but can remember it back in the early 40's
For me, I can remember it as far back as the mid 70's

I don't have anyone in my family or anyone I really know personally that collects. No coins going out here.

I make Stars, similar to this, with uncirulated bills and attach a ribbon to back to hang on a tree. And give them away.

In 1986, I gave my daughter a full set (1/10, 1/4, 1/2 and 1oz) of Gold Eagles, along with one ASE... After that it's been one ASE a year... :)

Each year, at high school graduation I give an ASE in an air-tite to the kids I know. Some years it’s 2 or 3, some years it’s 15. Some of them are puzzled. Most seem to think it’s cool. Virtually none of them have ever seen silver before.

When my own kids graduate, it’s an AGE. They know darn well what it is. :)
