Darn, was pulling for you on this one.![:( :(](https://forums.collectors.com/resources/emoji/frowning.png)
It most definitely has a strange look to it, especially the mintmark and the area around it.
What's the weight? Is it anywhere near where it should be?
Pete
In 100 years it will be listed as a semi-contemporary counterfeit

Too bad.... I was hoping you may have got lucky.... Thanks for posting the picture. Cheers, RickO
Wow, interesting fake. I bet it would really pop with a dip to remove the haze.

Not a terrible fake but once you have good pics its pretty clear. The font is definitely off and too thick. The leaves are definitely off too...
Thanks for sharing....what is the weight and diameter on this "coin"?
The letters on the reverse look too fat.
What does it weigh if you think it’s aluminum?

Good pictures... thanks for posting. I'm surprised that it may actually be aluminum. With your pics, it is now easier to see more areas that make the fake more apparent.
I have no way to weigh the coin. The size is the same as a real Mercury Dime. My only real question on this is who made them. Please respond if you know.
Thanks.
Ken
The eBay seller you purchased it from? Or his supplier in China?

Counterfeiting an extremely common date Mercury dime ... expect to see more dates appear in the near future.
I don't think we will ever know

Now that I have seen close-up pictures, it is definitely not a genuine 1943-D dime.
Are you sending it back or keeping?
If you are keeping, I am curious what the reeding looks like and what it sounds like on 'ring' test
Is it beyond all imagination that it could be a trial piece? After all 1943 was WWII time. Nickels changed and maybe they were experimenting with removing copper as it was a war material (like they did with the steel cents?).

It was pretty obvious from the original images that it was a counterfeit, as well.

Inconceivable!
Ah, Maybe the military thought they might encounter werewolves and vampires and thought they may need additional supplies of silver for the bullets!
@amwldcoin @CaptHenway @MFeld Okay, stupid idea and certainly beyond any experience I've had, but then tell me why a dime would be counterfeited in Aluminum? That makes no sense either, as it would never pass muster with anyone, public or collector.

Because if the Chinese can make a counterfeit for 15 cents and sell it to some unsuspecting American for $3 they consider that a great victory.
