'96 SPX Auto MJ big $ Auction
This '96 SPX Auto MJ just sold on ebay for almost 23k. I remember when you could get this card for 2k & people saying some day it could be a 10k card. It took long enough but it looks like it's finally getting the respect it deserves.
For those of you who don't know this was MJ's very first pack-pulled auto basketball card. It was obtained via redemption. There were only 100 made & who knows how many were redeemed. Everyone was after one of these when they first came out. They also had a Penny. If you have one of these you should probably hang onto it.
I'm all about that Jordan stuff. Cards, stickers, posters & whatever else is cool. The rarer the better. And always in a PSA 10 if I can help it.
Any other big Jordan nuts out there let me know.

That card is awesome. One of the hobby's all time great cards.
Do the boxes have any on-card autographs inside (for any players)? Or were they only available through redemption?
@Air23GOAT - That is a SWEET card above!!
Been picking up 90's Jordan's for a few years now and have this one in my collection. It has since been re-holdered.
incredible card. a piece of history
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
Nice card! Were autographed cards found in the packs? Or were they via redemption-card only? I see some boxes on eBay and was wondering if they were worth getting if they might contain an autograph from MJ? (any redemption card would long be expired -- but maybe the redemption card might have some value if there were limited issued cards as well?)
They were offered through redemption only but the redemption cards still in packs are still worth money. It's a long shot though at 1:34,560 packs. The authentic pack-pulled cards have their matching serial # cards starting with the prefix BAC or BAD. Others you see with serial #'s that dont start with that were signed in person at MJ's basketball camp.

Not sure if you know that that one is not a pack-pulled redemption. The Record Breakers were hand serial #'d out of 250. This is a Record Breaker base card that was personally signed by MJ. It's a great card & I'd hang onto it but wasn't sure if you were aware.

These spx autos only had MJ & Penny Hardaway & only through redemption. Good luck on getting a redemption card though. One of those in a PSA 10 sold for over 3k about a year ago. The odds of getting one were 1:34,560 packs back in '96 & that was before people had redeemed most of them.
Since they were the first maybe they just wanted to do the 2 most popular players at the time to see if it caught on. Here we are today & pack-pulled autos are a big part of collecting. That really wasn't that long ago, relatively speaking. I love this card though. It has a great 90's feel with the hologram design with a great shot of Jordan in the air. And you can't say enough about what it meant for the hobby.

Thanks for the background information on these! I guess there still might be interest in pulling a redemption card -- maybe there are less redemption cards than actual autographed cards (unless they sent you back the redemption card)...
