Very nice looking quarter for an XF40. I'm seeing some luster in there and would have graded this one a notch higher. I'd give it a sticker.

Looks like a slab blemish on the reverse making for a blurred shield. Slab needs a little polishing or a drop of WD40 for the photo shoot.

    Nice!

I know I've said it before, but after Washington eagle reverse quarters Barbers are my favorite series. And I like my Barbers original. Even crustier would be nice. :D

    Nice quarter @DIMEMAN

Agree with Batman23 - looks like it's pushing XF45, very solid looking coin.

Wonder if this was one of the Philippine coins? I think a number of higher circ S mint Barber coins
    came (back) from there.

Could easily be one. 1898,1899, and 1900 are the Philippine coins for the most part. Most have been harshly cleaned. This is a very nice exception if it was overseas
    Congratulations John
    Nice eye

Great example! I agree with the others saying it looks like a 45. Type 2, reverse of '01.

Thanks for the heads up on the variety. I think I will put that in the description so I don't forget. What is the PUP on it?

Nice meaty XF....but you know Barber coinage is ugly, right? Drab, boring design.

    Dave

Always looking for original, better date VF20-VF35 Barber quarters and halves, and a quality beer.

I have heard that before. LOL I personally feel that way about Morgan Dollars.....yet there are many who love them. To each his/her own. :)

Weird. You would think the 01's would get reverse of 00

@DIMEMAN - the eagle's wingtips extend slightly past the tops of the letters on the reverse. This is actually considered a type III reverse (But I call it type 2 for the year of 1900) since the 1892 only came in reverse I and II types depending on how much of the E in UNITED was covered by the wing. (Type 1 being more E showing). There are also two types of obverse designs where the ear is slightly different. Your example is a type II which shows the cartilage in the middle of the ear. TMI most likely, but hey some of us are into that stuff and I know with you loving your varieties of and RPMs and stuff with dimes that you may be interested.

Nice looking coin! Correctly graded and a great coin for a circulated set.

    All glory is fleeting.

Thanks for the info. I was aware of the wing tip varieties on the 1892, but did not know that it occurred in 1900 also. And the ear difference also occurs in the Barber Dimes.

Thanks again for the info....as you mentioned I do love varieties.

Maybe a little. No slab is perfect except the ones you get back from a submission.
