I'm not a medalist but having just moved back to Colorado, I couldn't pass this up. I found it at a small show a while back.
Dated 1976, it is the first commemorative medal struck by the Denver mint. Note the "D" under the 76. It is still in the sealed baggie so I apologize for the iffy pictures.
After reading the post below I dug thru my stuff and found this.

My recollection is that this medal has been discussed on this forum sometime during 2018 or 2019. But I can't readily find that discussion.
Here it is - 2018 revival of an earlier thread:

The medal has a small section covering it on Page 1455 of the 5th Edition Mega Red Book.
There is a "mule" medal with the Centennial reverse that you have paired with the Denver Mint building on the obverse which is a great item to obtain and display with your medal.
One neat thing about that Denver Mint facility obverse/ Colorado Centennial reverse medal is that the "D" mintmark can be found on both sides of the piece.
Very interesting, Bill. Didn't know that.

Nice medal... and the mint set medallion to go with it is a nice touch....Cheers, RickO
Great info! I never knew about this but I'm excited to learn this.
Thanks for sharing!
Nice medal. Is it Sterling Silver?

The medal is .900 silver and 20,200 minted. There is a .900 gold one the same size, mintage 100. They minted a bronze, and a gold plated bronze, and the muled variety mentioned above with the two D's.
These are part of the National Commemorative Medal Series of the US Mints which is one of my favorite and crazy difficult sets to attempt to collect. These are all documented by John T. Dean in his 2012 reference book on them.
