Guess the CAC—$20 Saint REVEALED

I’m trying to get a feel for what kind of coin gets a CAC. Below are two Saints, same grade, same TPG, but one has a CAC and the other doesn’t (I don’t know if the one without has been submitted or not). So I want to ask, which of the two do you think has the sticker, and why? (Feel free to guess the grade, too.)

I would say coin 1

Coin 1.
@Kliao @Smudge
Why?
To me coin 1 has a deeper strike, more luster, and not as many bag marks.

Doesn’t matter. It’s in one of “the other guys “ holder.
Coin #1...More luster, less marks...Cheers, RickO
1 is not as baggy and has better luster, but I am just looking at a photo so....
Coin 1 is nicer. Seems more lustrous than coin 2. Coin 2 don’t like dark areas on Lady Liberty nor what appears as lite reverse rim ding. Coin 1 better too vs marks.
Coin2 does not meet my standards for what I consider solid quality. So if somebody spent money sticker they wasted their money in my view.
Neither... What do I win?
Coin 2 looks like it has original skin.

I like the look of Coin 1 better than Coin 2.
Coin 1 has a nice look but also looks like its been dipped in the past, coin 2 looks more like original skin. So while I like the look of coin 1 very much I think coin 2 is the bean winner.

The first coin.
I like the look of coin number one better. But this exercise could have been more useful if you knew whether both coins had been to CAC.

1 is an AU. 2 got the sticker
Why?
JA hates friction on unc coins.
08 NM all have that slider look to them on the reverse belly feathers and the type #1 obverse knee & breast.
Check out coin facts to see the difference in neck & body feathers on "blind eagles".
Also check out light hits on "short ray" obverse.
JA is all about luster.
He will bump from 63 to 64 if it has it.
Avoid 08 NM if possible.
They'll never go up in value because they are the worst of the entire series.
Good for pocket pieces or "old bullion" until you get at least MS66...(widget territory)

Regardless of what you think of 1908 No Motto Saints, their price movement (up or down) typically closely mirrors that of common date With Motto issues.
And no matter how many times you repeat that “JA is all about luster”, you’re badly mistaken.

Who cares about cac, nice 63's Congrats!

Wooooha! Did someone just say it's officially "TACO™" Tuesday????
I think they are both 64 and #1 has the bean because it is shiny.
JA likes shiny.
Agree w/ blitzdude on CAC.

Interesting… so we’re actually looking at two different types here.
Are you the poster who was buying non stickered Saints and then sent in 5 to CAC? I believe you had a poll on it. If so both TDN and I stated that none would sticker. I think none stickered. If that was you then me thinks you have sour grapes. You have a pebble in your shoe. You keep stating what you think JA likes. You don’t. That’s obvious.
For someone who doesn’t care you sure seem to care a lot

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
1. More luster.
Dave
You are correct in everything except I sent in my best TEN saints and NONE got stickers.
JA and I do not agree on saints AT ALL.
I don't agree with him on grading.
I don't like the same coins he likes.
I'm saying that it is OK to have the same opinion as me.

Zero for ten on your best ten? No wonder you don’t like CAC
Of course, Saints are notoriously overgraded. Kinda like 1804 dollars
Yes the long ray 08 has a different obverse die and the devices are better engraved where they don't appear like a light hit.
(see on coin #2 where the one ray almost touches the olive branch)
The reverse is the same on both coins.

Really hard to tell with those pics.

We can also determine that in 2019 some of us still collect coins while others collect stickers. I'll stick with coins, to me it's a no-brainer.

Not sure how anyone can hazard a guess from those tiny pics.
Photo 2 certainly the dog one of the 2 imo - what grade was it assigned? If 63 avg quality or lower range coin in my view - barely b or just c? Not one I would select from the wholesale box.
I do like to pick nice slabbed $20 saints and libs close to melt. Will there be some at Fun?
Just think how far that money spent on those would go w Commems. Per Pcgs index they have dropped 22.76 % since 2016. Buyx oppy? I wb shopx for some.
From the images I prefer coin 2.
What do you see that indicates dipping?
Is a past dip an automatic disqualification for a sticker?
Coin 1 looks 65ish.

Nothing specific, from the pic it seems like the skin may not be original and looks somewhat overly bright, both of which could be a product of how the coin was imaged also. As far as I know a past dip will not disqualify a bean unless the luster in hand has been affected.

If you're trying to get a feel for coins that pass at CAC send in a lot and make a note to get feedback on coins that don't pass. Call up after and talk to John and after 5 minutes you'll hang up the phone a better coin grader every time. That's a much better option than asking for feedback on just okay images online, in my opinion.
Due to the excessively damaged bullion on these coins, I would caution sending these to CAC for review.

So what’s the answer?
Both coins are 64s, coin 2 has a green CAC. As noted (and admittedly a flaw with the experiment) is that I’m not sure if coin 1 has been submitted.
I’ve compared the image of coin 1 to other short ray 64s with CACs, and while there is weakness on the areas noted by @tradedollarnut the weakness on coin 1 seems a little more obvious, so I’m not sure if it’s rub or the die. I own coin 1 (not 2) so I may submit it; will update with results if I do.
For those complaining about photo quality, my apologies. The photos come from one of the well-known websites used by members of this forum and show up with better detail than 90% of the photos posted on our BST, especially when zoomed in. They may show up different on other devices?
Thanks for all the input, it has been instructive. I’ll send in-hand photos once the coin arrives.
