With all the attention paid to adding new SC$ listing isn't it about time to "de-list" two medals from the reference, HK-8 and HK-8a??

from the 2nd Edition --- Manufactured by Pinches of London, these medals are actually British and should not have been included even in the 1963 edition of this reference. Originally opened as part of The Great Exhibition of 1851, the Crystal Palace was moved after the close of the Exhibition from its original location in Hyde Park; reopened on Sydenham Hill in London by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert on June 10, 1854. Original building destroyed by fire on Nov. 30, 1936; site of current Crystal Palace Park.

This is admittedly a medal with a very beautiful obverse design, quite often having a PL appearance, but does it really belong in the listings??

I thought I recalled some HK numbers being in the 1st Edition but not the 2nd Edition? If so, this could be a precedent.

That being said, Hiber and Kappen made a lot of exceptions to their criteria list so could this simply be something they wanted to include?

It is indeed a beautiful medal.... I have no input on your question Al, but that medal must be gorgeous in hand. Cheers, RickO

from the original Hibler/Kappen listing --- All issues proved difficult to research. Types I and III(HK-8), at least, probably were of official nature, perhaps sold within Palace during exhibitions.

understanding that, it seems clear that they didn't realize this medal was issued in Great Britain for the Crystal Palace located there, probably confused because of the date on the medal. as happens in Numismatics, time yields information and mistakes can and should be corrected.

Any indication of a 3rd edition coming out to potentially make this change?
