Found this 1970s penny.

Noticed parts of the roof is missing? Help appreciated. Worth more than a penny :D

    Now track down 1970 D,
    also no roof.
    Always check the roof, nint mark and designers int.
    I Have seen many as a flash in the pan for that date and or mint mark.
    With no rhyme or reason.

    Excessive die polishing, probably to remove clash marks is the likely cause IMO. I believe they are/were called the floating roof.

    Floating Lincoln Memorial roof.

    Die was probably over polished.

    Yep, Floating Memorial Roof.... Has been mentioned before... but always good to have a refresher for new members. Cheers, RickO

    It is a type of die polishing variety that never really caught on because the "right" dealers never promoted it. For minor "errors" or varieties like this to become popular in the marketplace they need heavy promotion by a major player. This heavy promotion is what caused the popularity of the 3 1/2 leg Buffalo nickel.
