Hello there! I am new to the forum and coins. I found, what I think is a unique coin that has missing dots on either side of UNUM. Is this normal?

Likely a filled die, in which case the coin would not be unique.

It could be just a little bit of grease fill and not uncommon. (no added value)
It would help if you can post photos.

I agree grease filled
Minor filled die errors are not unusual and unless a large portion of the design is missing, do not add much if any additional value to the coin. However, there is nothing wrong with saving it if you find the coin interesting. Just don't plan on using it to as part of your retirement portfolio![;) ;)](https://forums.collectors.com/resources/emoji/wink.png)
I have a special jar for coins like this.
@DBL11....Welcome aboard.... Looks like a grease filled die....though the picture is difficult to assess...could use some magnification. Cheers, RickO

Yes indeed, and not uncommon.
Some years it is harder to find a coin with the dots strong than incomplete or missing.
