Copper 4 the Weekend

We havent had one of these in a while, so here is a late night Friday version:
1863 H.D. Gerdts/Money Makes the Mare Go F-630AD-2a PCGS MS65+RB

Here is one of the few coin dealers who issued his own tokens during the Civil War, H.D.Gerdts. The die sinker is William H. Bridgens who employed his Knickerbocker reverse die for use on this piece. (Also used was Bridgens' "The Washington Token" shown below)
1863 H.D.Gerdts/Washington Token F-NY630AD-1a PCGS MS65RB

Both of these babies came out of Q. David Bowers' lifelong collection of civil war tokens. The Gerdts pieces meant a lot to him. Perhaps it was the connection he felt with this particular NY merchant, a coin dealer by trade, and the path in life he chose for himself a century later.

Thanks for looking and let's see some copper, folks!
