2019 s reverse proof silver eagle - open the box?

Is there any advantage to leaving the box unopened? I think I have heard something about early strike or first strike, but is that true on a mintage limited to 30,000? Is there any other reason not to open the box?

If you want your C.O.A. slabbed too you need to leave it sealed.
Send it to me.... I will take it sight unseen....
See how nice I am??
Cheers, RickO
Of course you are. So what is the tracking # for the ASE 1995W proof that is coming my way?
Lol, if only getting a 95w was that easy
@Guxiyou...I do have a '95W....However, it will be staying with me
Cheers, RickO
Sold one yesterday. Still in the box. The collector paid me $750. I just bought it from a walk in for $475.
He wanted it in the box for that label ( for submitting).
The oddest question we both had was : " How do I know THAT coin is in there ?" We weren't the original purchasers.

Leaving the shipping box unopened allows you to submit to PCGS for First Strike (FS) designation at anytime. As soon as the box is opened then there is a FS deadline (which is 30 days after Mint release, see link: https://www.pcgs.com/firststrike/ )
For this ERP ASE another reason to keep it sealed is if you’re planning on slabbing the COA. More info here: https://www.pcgs.com/news/pcgs-announces-dual-encapsulation-coa
I was looking at my unopened shipping box — got it yesterday— for a hint of an order number, but there’s nothing like that on there.
Is the box a standard size used by the mint? Can we tell by shaking it?
The order Number should be on the label under the Barcode next to Ref 2:
It was on mine at least.
All of my recent (this year...many) Smartpost deliveries have had no order number on the box. They have a number but it definitely is not an order number
It's really really tempting to take a peek in one of mine. My first order was in at exactly 12:00 on the dot. Does anyone know if the COA's are handed out in order? Or is it random?
Early American Copper, Bust and Seated.
Random.
If there was supposed to be an order then the Mint’s contractor would surely demolish it.

@Bigbuck1975 and @BigA — looks like you’re both right. My Smartpost order doesn’t have a ref2 line. There is a mystery number at the very bottom, and another super-tiny eye-chart buster at extreme right, next to the boxed S:
Lol, someday
Wow seems like prices are still rising. I just looked on EBay and $1500.00 is the cheapest price. That would almost get me all caught up on my outstanding bills.
So this is kind of random and slightly pointless, but I looked up the fulfillment center building in Memphis on Google Street View. It's within driving distance for me.
Early American Copper, Bust and Seated.
Received today, opened, enjoyed.

Nice pic @JohnnyCache! Enjoyed indeed. (Cool loupes too.)
Not cool...
I just sent this VIDEO to our Host and told them to carefully watch out for those who attempt to cheat! I also forwarded this to the Mint, FBI, JUSTIC DEPARTMENT, NSA/ IRS, NASA, to try and do voice analysis and see if we can get this guy! It’s a CRIME RIGHT? Told them to do a trace starting with our web site sieze this VIDEO and let find this Criminal! This Video needs to be shut down along with YouTube! Criminal Interrogations water boarding ech! LETS DO IT! Everybody takes a Lie Detector Test! Hooooo Yaaaaaa!
Watched the video, but I'm not sure what the crime is?
"I can put it all back and no-one will ever know it's been opened"
Gotta admit i laughed.
So if I offered $750 for one in the original box , would it be considered low balling

Not at all considering I only paid $70.00. In fact it would of been a good deal for me. However mine was luckily purchased from the Mint for my collection. I really did NOT think the Internet connection would work given all the problems I had while attempting to purchase. I collect ASE’s BEFORE I knew of the SPOTTING issues. Now I rarely buy them. Hoping my 2016-S ASE’s will one day be worth more than I paid.
"So if I offered $750 for one in the original box , would it be considered low balling

Very reasonable. I've offered $1000 to several sellers which I thought was generous but alas they still wanted their
$1400 or more. Prices, budgets, and offers don't always see eye to eye.
Shipped my out sight unseen. Could have held out and sold for more, but the lack of fees and knowing that the buyer was a friend of a friend (who sent a check before I had the coin) made the deal the right choice. No worrying about the box being opened and the coin being switched or a claim being filed by a buyer that swears the box was empty. Sometimes the amount of cash in hand is not the true measure of a successful transaction.
These just sold between $1150.00 and $1300.00 wonder why?
AND THIS ONE JUST OVER 1300.00
Sales are strong.
Be careful buying sealed boxes ( at least the thin ones. They come in two different boxes) the back is taped but the ends are not. They can be carefully opened and folded back to look sealed. I suppose making $1000 isn't enough they want to see if they got one of the first 100 or even worse put something else in there.
Edit: Just watched that video. Guess I wasn't the first to figure this out. ( didn't really think I would be)
Some "Unopened" box prices will fall now. Sad but true.
My US Mint Commemorative Medal Set
This one just sold unopened on eBay. The top seam is even looks ok (doesn't mean it is ok just looks a lot better than the bottom). The bottom seam is uneven and the left side shows torn cardboard. I would not touch this one.
The three small boxes I have seen in person, all have a similar appearance to the bottom seam as your picture.
There are over 300 P+ of these for sale on EBay. This guy has a total of 17 in his feedback rating. He is out of Brooklyn, New York need I say more. I would not touch any of these, looks like they have been Opened a few times over. Hey Joey which one should I send him? Carmine send any one they’ve ALL been gone through! Joey can you believe Annette is crying now cause she said we owe her $50.00 more for standing in the cold weather in Baltimore! I gave her $ 75.00 Friday tell Annette she ain’t gettin nothing.
With a ripped corner ? The flap looks loose. Now that I know they can be opened and closed back up I will be looking at sealed boxes differently.
The top box on the short stack has the friggin flaps taped shut.
Terrible shipping package. I shot this moments after arrival. Ten minutes later I was on my way to the PO to ship it to a forum friend.
Never even considered opening it. Only a lowlife cheat would do that.
Lance.
Yes. Well protected and always possible that it has a 70. Opened box will always get 69 or raw value period. So if your not sure your keeping it just leave it along mark On another note tape to it date purchased us mint order # date shipped. That you can get off the website for your order.

Were the contents damaged in shipping?
Now that I see Lance's box with the wide open gap at the bottom ( but no apparent ripped cardboard) I find it more concerning. Now a documented untampered box with a gap that's large enough to open with little effort. That flap has to be loose. This is not good.
If anyone at all is skeptical. I easily opened the same thin cardboard mint box of my presidential dollar medal that mostly no one wants just like these, and no way you could tell after I put it back. I did this to test the packaging and in no way did I do anything except send my presidential medal into our hosts afterward for grading.
Anyway, I won't disclose my investigations of this technique, but I guarantee you anyone who works at it carefully can take a coin and holder out and all the Mint stuff and put something back and no one would tell at all, based on the ones I have seen in this style box.
This is why I said on the palladium posts and also on these posts that buyers should beware! The Mint should immediately do away with sideways easy open boxes, (or tape the sides), NOW!!!
My US Mint Commemorative Medal Set
I'm with @acloco on this. The flap is kind of flimsy. It can get like that during shipping without being opened. Of course, it might also get that way by being opened.
After all the cancelled deals you guys should be a bit more skeptical.
Having watched this video...what's also odd is that the 2 original thin boxes that I opened directly from the Mint...contained white Styrofoam packing strips to hold the blue coin box in place...and no wrapping paper. Does that jive with anyone else?
And second...how do you wrap that thick outer flap back around the 2 thin cardboard "wing like" pieces within? I wanted to close my own boxes up nice and neat...but gave up and just put a rubber band around it instead.
Thoughts...comments?
The one I received came in the larger box. Not sure how it is packed as it was shipped on with a new label without opening. I do know that it was just rattling around in the box. As far as I know, nothing is in there holding it in place.
It's easy first close the small flap then lay the two side wing flaps on that. Then close the large flap making sure the large flap slides under the two side wing flaps. You can actually feel it all pop in place when it's fully slid under the side wing flaps and the lip gets to the slot. Bobs your uncle.
the boxes can be opened/resealed so easily. how are the grading companies gonna know if the box was opened? They won't be able to tell. Them saying boxes have to be "sealed" to get COA graded is laughable.
The two coins I managed to get both came the same way- no wrapping paper and just a thin piece of styrofoam, both ends were not tight. One even had two pieces of tape if I remember right. I opened both no big deal- was not sending in for grading. One was received on the 20th and the other on the 22nd, both directly from mint.
I'm cautious. But 75% of the boxes I've received, including the ones directly from the mint have a weak flap on one end. Given that the price difference is only about $100, it isn't exactly a deal killer.
Wonder how much just the cardboard box would go for couple hundred? One hundred?
As long as the right coin is inside.
Well, that's why you either have to submit them (PCGS will tell you) or open them yourself.
