PCGS survival estimate for large 9 variety: 512. Mintage location? Only one possibility. San Francisco was located in New Spain at the time. What on earth did this coin buy in its functional lifetime? Fast forward 200 years: 2019 ASE Enhanced Reverse Silver Proof minted. Survival estimate: 30,000. Funny how demand works. This beautiful historic quarter is probably worth less than one of these shiny new widgets (which I confess I’m disappointed I was unable to purchase).

Shhhh! Let them buy the eagles! 😉

Here’s my 1820 B-5 that I got this summer. It’s an R5 die marriage, which corresponds to about 50 coins... or roughly 600 times rather than the ASE. Fortunately for us, the demand for these is far less than the demand for the ASE, or else we probably couldn’t afford to collect them!
(Can you imagine the chaos if the mint made an ASE with a mintage of 50 or 500?! )
200 years later and a different world entirely.....Culturally, technically and numismatics... "The only thing that is constant is change." (Hereclitus)....Cheers, RickO
Love your example above. Here's another (just to help bump the eagle threads off the front page )

I absolutely love your example @Eagleguy . Such beautiful color. VF30? I’m unable to adequately capture the subtle blue and pink hues that appear on my example when tilted in a light. Somebody once showed me a bust half with similar toning and called it leather pouch toning.
You're going to need to start 30 new threads and continuously bump them if you want the ASEs off the 1st page. For some reason - and I'm an ASE fan - everyone thinks they need to start their own thread.
@Wahoo554 Thank you. It is an XF40. I agree about the difficulty in capturing the hues but I recently found that a longer exposure helps. Here's the photo I took for comparison.

It took me almost two days, but I realized that I should’ve posted an 1819 instead of an 1820! Here are my two 1819’s. They aren’t as high of grade as the other 1819’s posted in this thread, but they’re just as old...

Those are both great photos. I actually like the second photo even more. Which of the pics do you consider most illustrative of the in-hand look of the coin?
@Wahoo554 I believe my photos show the overall coin surface more accurately but the first photo captures the color better
