Masked Indian

In more ways than one.
Stumbled across one of my old Buffs I've owned for more years than I can count. I feel fortunate to own this Clashed/Toned masked Indian.

Looks like Tonto borrowed the Lone Ranger's mask.

That's one of the better dies for 1913, Joe. There's a total of four good dies. Bill Fivaz calls these the "Lone Ranger" die clash (I used to call the the "Masked Indian" but I like Bill's name better) and did an article on them 25 or so years ago. I have a date set of coins that show this clash to one degree or another.

BTW I love the color on that coin!

Of all of the good people here on this forum I figured you’d perk up when you saw this piece.
I’ve gotta say I think it’s pretty cool with the toning on the Indian’s face.

The Lone Ranger clash is formed by the field immediately below the bison's belly, as can be seen here. The first image is from a rotated die; the second is from a die that's not rotated.
