Wide AM Cent Variety Question...
Hi guy's, I was searching the PCGS Price List for some interesting Lincoln posted on our forum, then I came across a listing of the 1988 Lincoln "Wide AM"? What? '88? I for one probably is one of the most popular fans for the AM Variety. I didn't have a clue on an 1988 or 1988D, are joined in this type of variety. I heard rumors of the 1996 being a possibility to be in the family of AM's (1998,1999 and 2000) but 1988, never. Is this true? If it is I better check out those 88's now as well! Thanks guy's in advance.

I know of the 88's have different reverse varieties- they changed a couple things in 1989, mainly due to the style of designer initials. The 89's have a more "gothic" style- most noticable in the "G", found a couple 88's over the years- known as 1988's with reverse of 1989.
Thanks for replying. Yeah, I am aware of what you posted. but the PCGS price list titles it "1988 Wide AM"? I'm beginning to think this is a typo.

WOW! Does anyone know when this was first discovered?

Please only remember my opening Sig Line.I just googled it and it turns out the Reverse of '89 lincoln on an '88 penny is what PCGS is calling a wide AM for 1988. Technically both are wide AM, but looks like spacing is even more for 1989 style reverse. The posts I saw that talk about the variety all mentioned the pick up points as being the designers initials, so it looks like they are one and the same variety.
Ok, thanks for the info. I now see the difference. 1988 has the straight "G" in the initials and the 1989 has the flared "G". The Variety 1988 "Wide AM" has the 1989 Reverse "G", FLARED.
