I messaged the seller and got a story of course. My guess is he knows what he has here. Old collector died, got them reasonable, not trying to get rich, blah blah blah 🤮

Definitely counterfeit. Was actually looking at these last night on Ebay. Reported all of the walkers this seller has. Pretty decent counterfeits too.
I reported current and sold listings for his Walking Liberty halves. However, I don’t think they are very good counterfeits.

Isn't it wonderful to have China producing boatloads of fake coins?
It will be so easy in the future to bring new coin collectors into the hobby when spotting the difference between a real and a fake requires 20x or greater magnification than the human eye can afford. Who wouldn't want to join a hobby where fakes are 99.9% indiscernible from an authentic example - and occasionally even fool experts?
This problem will never be solved as long as the only action we take to stop the spread of counterfeiters is to merely continually flag individual eBay middlemen who buy direct from the manufacturers ad infinitum, rather than simply getting the actual manufacturers of the fakes shut down (legally). One is a band-aid. The other is an antidote.
Action is necessary. We need new laws targeting the counterfeiters, or we risk losing our hobby.
Problem is it's not illegal in China to make reproductions of foreign coins no longer minted. China needs to change its laws and then crack down on violators.

My thought is plain fake or altered date. Appears off. See images below

Looks like a pretty current shipment of imported fakes. I recently saw a 1916-S, reverse mint mark that looked a lot like that.
The inner loop of the 9 should not touch the back of it.
