That’s an NGC 2.1 holder, so I’d say the premium is about $300-350 over coin value. It’s eBay, so the coin will probably hammer at way more. Good luck!

One of the more sought after slab types, very hard to say just how much the final hammer will be but I'd bet much higher that it is now.

Do you really want to start paying premium for slab types? Think twice before doing so. When it comes time to sell you don't want to learn that you have put your money into a thin market that few buyers care about.

People collect all kind of things.
There is a fairly active plastic and label subset of numismatists, so to some, there would be added value in the plastic., to others, not so much.
It is one of the things I dislike about third party grading, but then again there is also many people who will pay more for a sealed mint envelope or shipping boxes.
It is the way of things. Not wrong, nor right. I collect what I like and let others collect what they like.

As to the original question, to some, yes; to others, no.

I would not pay a premium for a slab....That does not make it wrong or right...I just like coins and the plastic is something that protects them. Cheers, RickO

I don't like the coin at all. I would say this is a buy the holder not the coin situation, if that is what you are into.

There's a reason the pictures don't show the coin very clearly.

Cool old slab, but that is not a proof walker that I would want to own at just about any price.

Successful transactions with: wondercoin, Tetromibi, PerryHall, PlatinumDuck, JohnMaben/Pegasus Coin & Jewelry, CoinFlip, and coinlieutenant.

maybe the holder is nostalgic but the coin is in a Tomb, it looks to have black terminal tone which is there to stay(or an artifact if removed) and evidence of a bad dip rinse which makes it an ugly coin to my eye. I would not want to own the coin and wouldn't pay a premium for its Tomb no matter what it is.

Kinda have to agree. I wouldn't want the coin but I'd love the slab.

I'd pay a premium, for a rare slab, but the coin inside has to be nice.

Such is not the case here. JMHO.

I don't see a shadow. Is the gold emblem under the plastic ? If it is bidders will go 💩 Crazy.

Take away the older slab envy... That proof with the black spot on the reverse would be hard to sell.

My guess is it went from a PVC flip directly to grading. Too bad it didn't get at least an acetone dip beforehand.

There's nothing I like about it.

Could it be a poor photo though? It's not helpful knowing it was returned already by another buyer.

Prices for proof Walkers like many of it's kind are dropping like lead balloons. This is not an attractive '40. Look for clean deep mirrored coins that show full detail. Most are fully struck but have some degree of die polish washing away the fine detail. Oh wait you want the plastic.
Look at the number on this one. I like the new clean holder better maybe it's just me.

Not returned, no return sale. Buyer came to his senses and never paid, most likely.

I was basing my opinion on the fourth comment to this thread (1peter1223's comment). Looks like it was purchased and subsequently returned "due to haziness".
