Rainbow toned 1738-Mo 8 Reales ex Potomac Collection - just won!

Very happy to have this in my collection. Pedigreed to the Potomac collection of Mexican pillars. Planning to cross it over to PCGS.

I didn’t get a chance to see it in hand but I was skeptical of the coloration in the pictures. Did you have a chance to view it or have representation? Would love to see pics.

I didn't but took a gamble. Most the Potomac coins are nice and between the picture above and the scans on NGC...I think it will be nice. https://www.ngccoin.com/certlookup/4743644-001/55/ . Hoping PCGS agrees. :)

The toning does look suspect but apparently the previous TPG considered it market acceptable. Think twice before trying to cross it over to PCGS. It may come back as cleaned and retoned.

I can appreciate that perspective. Going to send it in the holder as a crossover, so if PCGS doesn't like it they will send it back as is. Given the provenance, and what I can glean from the images, I think it should cross.

I have seen Aereo & Calico describe pillar lots (none were 8R to my recollection) as artificially toned on occasion; very infrequently. I'm sure that somebody has done it intentionally but it would be a waste of time. It's not like the premiums on color come even close to US coinage.
