I have a set of Trade dollars that you have just inspired me to pull out of my closet. I would love to pick up a seated Liberty as nice as you have. Congratulations on the addition.

I really like the old, large silver dollars....I was fascinated by Morgans and Peace dollars as a kid... only got to look at them then...too much money for a kid to have...Cheers, RickO

Congrats! I agree the toning looks nice. I'm a big fan of these dollars.

It is nice to see another's interest in the dollars. These big coins are the best example of the design, IMHO. Congratulations on your acquisition. Beautiful coin.

Very nice! That toning is great!

I wish I still had mine. It was a dog, but it was first. Polished and had a dent in the shield.
I look for it once in a while. That dang Dansco started something. :D

Thanks guys and gals! Took me a bit to decide on which one I wanted! Glad I picked this one. I want to put together a set and sometimes it gets discouraging just realizing how much they cost but I'm gonna do it, nice and slow! There are such nice examples of these coins out there!

Wow, very nice KW!!!! Very clean looking ! Have you checked out the LSCC for the different seated dollar varieties? Theres some great reading there!

  • CrustyCrusty Posts: 1,107 ✭✭✭✭✭

Jayyk31- I was wondering if you were planning to put a full set together. I am glad you decided LSDs . They are extremely tough to find nice and original. What grade range are you trying to shoot for? This series requires a great deal of blood, sweet, time and money. Id like to make a few unsolicited suggestions... Create a network of other LSD collectors . It’s a small seated dollar world and the more buddies you have looking out for you the better you will be. Also if you are going to purchase non CACd LSDs be very mindful of the price guides. when it’s time to sell it is much easier to find a buyer of CACd LSDs and the offers will be much better. It’s very easy in this series to become inpatient (I struggle with this myself) wait for the right coin and try to avoid filling a hole only to upgrade later. I’d also suggest you purchasing a copy of Dick Osborn and Brian Cushings book (There is an online version which is free but they deserve to make a couple bucks for all the research they put into the massive project) . Once you have the book you’ll be able to figure out the OC Variety which will help determine if your coin is a business or a proof. There are a fair number of proof coins that are in plastic saying they are business strikes. This series can be very daunting.... You have to eat the elephant one bite at a time.... I’d be happy to help you out along the way if you want to bounce something off me just shoot me a PM.

@Crusty, thanks a ton dude, I really appreciate that! Yes I've looked at Bill Bugarts pdf's a bunch of times and the Dollar pdf's you speak about on LSCC researching my coins. I do plan to buy that book tho as well, they do deserve some $$$ for sure! I started out with Q. David Bowers book, which I bought a few months ago to get started. Honestly I haven't nailed down a specific grade range yet but if i can I'd love to stay in the XF and up if my pocket allows. I have no problem waiting and saving to grab something.
I believe I can buy the Osbuorn and Cushing book off of of the LSCC page, no? I'll have to check!

Looking at only uncertified ones on eBay will astonish you! Surprised me to see page after page of them. :o

    644 of them!

Of course that's also counting the ones that scummers put in the "wrong" category. :#

I bought my copy direct from dickosburn.com. I’d recommend sending an email and following up with a call. They ran out of the hard cover and are down to less then 25 spiral bound books left.

XF was my target range in the beginning because I felt it was the grade that gave me the best bang for my buck... But about a year ago I expanded and added AUs a few VF. I decided there was no reason to box myself in to just one grade. The quality was what I was and still am after. Good luck hunting!!!

LSD's are the best! They are so undervalued based upon rarity.

They are a beautiful coin. As to undervalued - there are not that many LSD collectors and there are not that many unmolested LSDs.

The majority of LSDs have been cleaned/polished. The series also is very very tough - 10% of the collection is essentially unobtainable. It is a daunting/scary series to collect. Not for the faint of heart.

Wholehearted welcome to these new collectors of this beautiful coin.

Congrats on picking up your first Seated dollar. Certainly a favorite of mine as I like a lot of the larger pieces.

Nice seated dollars. There seems to be some nice ones that came on the market recently. I bought two myself. Actually quite a few nice coins that interest me have come available

So I been buying them while folks on this board fight over old holders and cac.

Nothing wrong with that. I have both old holders and cac myself as well.
