SCNA Show Report - Greenville, SC 10/25-10/27/19

This was the SC state show with a 100 dealer capacity at the local convention center- a good location with lots of parking. It's always great to wander a show and to see what is happening in our hobby. This show was what I expected with lots of dealers offering 2X2s along with slabbed and unslabbed Morgans in abundance. Also saw a few foreign, paper, and medal dealers.
The leafage is starting to change here but it is an overcast Friday as I pull into the parking lot.
As you walk into the show, a few seminars are announced (but not in my wheelhouse of interests):
The venue was large with wide aisles which I would appreciate if I return tomorrow and the turnout gets larger.

For you rattler slab lovers, here is a partial collection (missing was the remainder of the commemorative coins) that will be auctioned at FUN (no commission and not via major auction house) and will be shown in Baltimore (sorry for the blurry pic). Note the website in the note at bottom to see if better pics are available:

What I enjoyed were the few educational exhibits. I'm not a paper money collector, but I thought the signed notes were very cool and can imagine how the signatures were obtained ala "hey there, sign this for me please?". This exhibit had about 5 cases showing various denominations with signatures. Two photos, one with the exhibitor name and one of his display cases.
I did enjoy chatting with a Chattanooga dealer, David Johnson from Rare Coins and Currency, who had some nice offerings. I wasn't in the market to buy anything, but always good to see what's available just in case.
Not a bad way to spend 90 minutes!

Forgot to include this pic. I thought this was a nice gesture of remembrance:

Thanks @Catbert for taking the time to post your show report.
Thanks, good report and photos.
Looks like a nice show.
Great report!
Like the Rattlers with some very unusual coins.
Sounds like a good show.

What! No visit to the Barber Half museum? At least it was today. I can just see myself in your picture looking to the left.
Thanks for an interesting report and pictures. Cheers, RickO
That looks like a good sized show.

Thank you for your great report.
I was there briefly today, since there were a fair number of currency dealers on the list.
I sold 3 large size notes, 2 $5 Silver Certificates, and 1 National, about $2.5k total for the 3, so I was happy about that.
I bought a roll of circ. 1921 Morgans for $350., which is wholesale ask.
I picked out a nice roll for the price, out of a big bin.
Thanks for the report. The remembrance table=class.
I was also there today .@Catbert gave an excellent show report. I would add that ANACS, ICG ,ANA were there. Bullion was slow and the attendance seemed light. A few tables had foreign coins and a few more had ancients. There were several tables set up for YN 's to pick out gently used Whitman folders free of charge. I dropped off a submission with ANACS. Went quick and smoothly. Overall a good show. Thanks SCNA.
Enjoyed the report and photos, thanks Catbert! NIce image of the rattler set; looks like a very pretty draped bust dollar in there.
Got to give credit to the speakers who still wish to educate the masses about various coinage and paper currency. Nice "toning" on the tree.
Looks like a show I'd like to attend. Too far from home, tho.
Thanks for the report, like the photos, I hope everyone there stopped by the remembrance table , at least for a minute or two
I was at the show yesterday for a few hours as well. Looked at lots of CBH's and type gold but ended up not picking anything up. I like the new venue much better, mostly because the parking is better.
Thanks @Catbert for the writeup.

Thanks for the nice show report; that rattler collection is very cool.
David Johnson is a great guy. His forum handle is 1798Collector, though he is no longer very active.
