I had to buy this coin, it had my name on it...Literally!

Although this won't make my IHC set I couldn't resist, it had my name on it, literally!

Counter stamped: J. C. Roy
My initials: J. D. Roy
My son's initials: C. J. Roy

A Google search for J. C. Roy turns up nothing, anyone familiar with this one? I know there are a lot of counter stamped collectors out there but what does this do to the value of a coin?

J.C. Roy is a single family detached home builder based in Columbia, South Carolina. I believe your IHC was an advertising piece.

I got the info from a search I did on Newspapers.com.

I had a similar experience about 30+ years ago when I found a CWT storecard where the merchant had the same last name as mine. In addition, it was dated 1863 and I was born 100 years later in 1963. That started me down the road of CWT collecting, which led to learning Civil War History. And having some historical background makes trips to Gettysburg, Antietam, and Fredericksburg a lot more interesting. All because of a chance find in dealers pick bin. I don’t actively collect CWTs anymore, but I still love reading about the history
