The seller of the bad 1856 "FE" recently posted in this forum ( https://forums.collectors.com/discussion/1026936/this-1856-flying-eagle-might-fool-someone) the following 1799 Dollar for Sale:
Coin doesn't match any of the known listed varieties which is the 1st clue something is wrong!

Thank you for the picture.....Cheers, RickO
Looks cast to me with the mushy details and sandblasted/grainy look.
Yes, it looks cast BUT it is virtually impossible find ANY MODERN-MADE COUNTERFEIT like this produced by casting.
Since this post we have found an entire "family" of counterfeits based on the 1799 B-10 variety.
Dates have ranged now from 1798 through 1803, all with the wrong ('99 B-10) reverse.
The latest is this 1798 listed in another forum this week- images included along with the white circled common marks to the others and this original posted example.
The 2nd image shows another 1799, an 1801 and 1802 counterfeit reverses for comparison.
Looks like time to write another summary article!
Here's a seller with bunches of em.

The seated dollar made me do a second take.
Thanks topstuf- he previously sold a counterfeit dollar type set that included one of these fakes as well.
Gone.

These continue to show up for sale in various configurations including off-center strikes...
I summarized images in the following Coin Week article: https://coinweek.com/counterfeits/struck-counterfeit-coins-a-second-family-of-struck-fake-draped-bust-dollars/
