Couple years ago at a show I saw a Washington 25c struck over a US $5 Lib. Price was 90k.
Every time I open a box of new nickels I fantasize about finding a nickel struck on a gold planchet. Glad to know gold sneaks into the normal presses on occasion.

Welcome to the forum!
Your dime was gold plated after it left the mint. No extra value and not an error.
Welcome to the forum @Chrisley.
As @ifthevamzarockin stated plated after it left the US Mint.
Why? Done by secondary market sellers to enhance the appeal so that they can sell a dime to the uninformed for $$.
Looks like the foil is peeled back to get at the chocolate at the six o’clock position on the obv..
A. The dings on the obverse expose the (normal) silver color undernearh.
B. The mint was not using gold planchets for anything in 1969. At that time it was illegal for Americans to own gold bullion.
Definitely a plated coin....No numismatic premium. Cheers, RickO
gold plate job for sure. novelty piece
No premium to face value
Wear pattern doesn't match gold at all.

Gold planchets were running pretty low at the mint in 1969.

We landed on the Moon in 1969.
Maybe it was plated for a commemorative plaque or something.

In 1969 Acapulco Gold was top dog, best there was. Perhaps it was to celebrate that?

I seem to not have any recollection of that, Bob.

I think you have confused it with Maui Wowie
UMMM.....do you think that submitting the Dime to our Host for a "Gold Shield" would be advisable?
