The 60-S looks nicer than 40.

Super nice set of twins you have LeeroyBrown... Now all you need is a $20 type 3 OGH VF35 Gold CAC (Good Luck) to complete the type set... Very cool thanks for sharing

Definitely some nice, unmolested old gold there. Thanks for sharing.

    Cool combo!

FYI: if you want to hide the cert numbers, you'll need to edit the photos some more as the black highlighter is see through

    Thanks Pickwickjr! Thanks all.

I def think they are undergraded and the 1860s is def higher grade than 66s.

I bought them because I do love Type I and II $20 libs and the gold cac was just icing... them matching was the cherry

They are really attractive old gold coins....and certainly worthy of the sticker.... Cheers, RickO

They’re both very nice but I prefer the 60-S.

I also bid on that 60-s recently on ebay, I was curious who finally landed her at quite the surprising final bid. Now I know why, you wanted a nice matched set, very nice. VF35 is one of my favorite grades and I love those old green holders with the gold CAC stickers.

I was recently told by CAC that "gold means that the coin is under graded by one numeric grade"...however I have also read that JA lets the grading services give out the numeric grades and he looks at coins more as VG, XF, low AU, high AU etc....and that gold means that the coin would receive a green sticker at the next higher grade...

So that means that both coins would receive a green sticker at XF...personally I'd put the 66-S at XF40 and the 60-S at XF45...

    Nice coins!

Thanks for the feedback Jon! I agree the 1860s is much cleaner and also has stronger detail.

Personally, I think the 60s has the potential to be AU... i have been comparing it to other AU’s and it is very comparable.

    See pics to compare...

Maybe. Maybe not. The only way to know for sure is to risk the OGH and gold sticker and send it in for re-grading which of course I would never recommend. There's the rub of paying a premium for an OGH and/or gold sticker: the coin is under graded but you can never know for sure...

Enjoy your matched set as they are...nice coins!!!

Jonruns - I will never crack it out. Just trying to judge how undergraded it is. I love the matching pair. Not too often you see a mstching pair of gold cac’s in a tough series like Type I,Type II so I plan to keep them together and search for a Type III. : )

I would like an opinion on the comparison of the two coins directly above. What grade do you think the other 1860s is graded?

Here is is again: what grade do you think it is and how does it compare to my other? Any thoughts?? Is it highergrade or lower than my 1860s??
