Do I really need to give a brief reason? Ebay# 163915835681
Listing description.
1888 Carson City Morgan Dollar w/ free tube of 24k gold. Great looking Morgan coin. It has not been appraised of how much metals and silver is in the coin. So fyi to buyers. Real Morgans are hard to find espicially 1800's when melted for was then ca.e back in 1900's. Please dont spam me or make assumptions of this coin is real or fake. 1 you havent ever held a real Morgan coin from 1800s only few exist for sure at the US Treasury. I buy morgans that dont say copy, and do my best assesment if the coin is real or not from the strike. I dont have a chemical set that tells me what metals are in the coin. Beautiful piece of pure Americana, and if its not real, its nice to have replications made so we can k ow what they kind of looked like and felt like. If you want i can buy a PGS slab, polish the coin until its brand new look and pri t out a fake PGC PGS or Any coin professional slab. J/k i wont do that because it is a federa lm offense knowingly you are selling a rip off coin. Doesnt take a genious to see the guys selling these at $300. A rea lm one would go up to a real auction for 100's of thousands. Dont get ripped off buying those.
For my very keen eye no explanation needed, not, and there are plenty of beginners and intermediate experts might benefit for even a few words
Thanks
Incorrect parts marked. Hopefully is ok I throw foreign in the mix

1888 CC, WOW, that one is super rare.
Damn, and I was the high bidder before he tood it off ebay.
I sent him the following before he removed, with no comments or such, just this: (feel free to copy for future use)
From ICTA (The Industry Council for Tangible Assets):
—————
Barry Ron Skog, 68, of Burnsville, Minn., pleaded guilty February 21 to one count of selling counterfeit coins and one count of mail fraud in the United States District Court of Minnesota in St. Paul.
Skog faces a potential maximum sentence of 15 years imprisonment on the count of selling counterfeit coins and a potential of 20 years maximum on the mail fraud count. He also faces fines of up to $250,000 for each count and mandatory restitution in amounts to be determined by the court.
No date has been set for sentencing.
A Minnesota federal grand jury had returned a six-count criminal indictment on April 10, 2018, charging Skog with five counts related to the sale of counterfeit coins and one count of mail fraud. With the plea agreement, the government agreed to dismiss four of the counts related to selling counterfeit coins.
Update 7/11/2019:
A Burnsville coin dealer who admitted selling counterfeit coins was sentenced Tuesday to 30 months in prison.
Barry Ron Skog, 68, pleaded guilty to the counterfeit coin scheme Feb. 21.He was sentenced by St. Paul District Court Judge Wilhelmina M. Wright; Assistant U.S. Attorney Manda M. Sertich prosecuted the case..
After receiving this he took down several auctions.

@AUandAG
You should send that to bergerassetmanagement the next time he lists a bunch.
I have.

@AUandAG....Bob, that is great... sends a real message (and can be fact checked)...Not sure it will work with all of these sleazebags, but everyone is a win. Cheers, RickO
Good stuff @AUandAG!

Skog’s. Got off lucky. IMO.
Counterfeit: Involved SS/Treasury related statutes.
Mail Fraud: Involved USPS related statutes.
But what about the IRS? Maybe he did file the gains from the sale(s). Still a requirement to file income/gains (illegal and legal.)
@Kliao you have an item id so it can be reported?
I contacted the seller and after a bit of arguing I got them to take the listing down. They have not reposted it as of now. No need to worry. I’ll keep an eye on them

Date & CC mint mark
wow the host coin copied is done pretty decently. then they simply and completely botch the date, arrow feather and mm style.
makes me think there are some hand-me down type things happening. like someone who almost knows what they are doing makes a decent templet w/o a date and/or mm and then sells them off to keep distance and some goofballs take over thinking they've discovered shangri-la.
i can say i am thankful as the more people that get burned, the worse it gets. and the makers/sellers become more enabled, financially, confidently, brazenly etc.
thanks to the folk dedicated over many years/decades sharing/posting/fighting/reasoning etc.

i have never bought a bufflo and only held a few and even that one is obvious even to me. the holder and font since my isn't quite as trained for the subtle differences is also still fairly obvious. i really have yet to see any of the top TPG have inking issues of this magnitude. w/o a side by side the insert looks a little concerning how good it appears along with the slab itself. an in-hand exam could exacerbate everything making it completely obvious. not being gold, the weight in-hand would probably be a tell.
unless we are at a point where they are doing tungsten or other filled coins so they scan properly. oof
