Research and ID question

How long does it typically take to get something new graded? As in, first to be graded and new spec created? Anyone share an experience and timeline?

I have an item there presently which I foolishly sent in with 4 other already gradable items and now as a result all five are waiting for that one. So I am curious if others could share a similar story.

I have not called to inquire and I don’t think I will but it’s been a long time entered Research and ID phase on 7/23) and I miss my items terribly. So I am hoping one of you could offer me some hope.

Be well, guys!

    Two orders logged 9/4 & 9/5, each with 'will be the first copy graded' items included still hanging out in R&ID and I'd be pleasantly surprised if they escaped it by Thanksgiving. In my experience, once they finally leave R&ID the Grading phase is very brief (a day or less for my past couple).

    @LarkinCollector

    Cool - I’m waiting on a decision on this guy. I am hoping the wait means there’s a better chance it comes back slabbed but I guess there is no guarantee.

    And I’m mainly kicking myself now for not sending it alone. I didn’t think it through well enough. I know the place is crazy busy and with the new Jumbo holder and all of us crazy collectors with crazy specific knowledge, it’s easy to forget that there’s 1000’s of collected players with 1000’s of cards to identify. I mean, this is one of THE most collected players of all time and people put his face on everything. I have a few things myself that I own and I don’t know exactly what the hell it is... :D

    That'll look beautiful in a Jumbo! They're definitely helping to back up the Research department, one of the orders I mentioned was 25 Jumbos with only 4 that had Spec IDs that auto-populated ;)

    I echo what Kyle said. I have an order currently with them that’s moving fast now, but sat in research ID for months. Lots of foreign issues and lots of “first copy graded” items. For me the frustrating part isn’t when it sits there that long, it’s if they still N9 an item after all that time, or get the identification wrong. Thankfully that hasn’t happened much to me.

    That 8x10 photo was issued in 53 and 55 as well... The 55 noted Moss photo services. That item can't be dated as 1960 with 100% certainty. Good luck!

    Well, I have the full 12 NY Yankees Action Photos Set and envelope as it appears in the Standard Catalog. In various editions, that exact Mantle (though obviously not with any Moss photo identification) appears above the set Checklist in the Catalog. Other Catalog editions I have seen featured the Berra and the Maris above the set checklist and all three matched my set exactly.

    So, having mentioned this to the PSA Research team, I am somewhat hopeful. We’ll see how it goes.
