Got a 50 cent machine too, it is locked and not working.
I can see coins in it all from the early 70's, might be some silver in it.
Whoa! I'm loving it!!!!
I especially dig the top one!

Oooh, how cool!!
I like slot machines, as they are all very collectible and different.... just like coins.
I hope you find a way to get those old coins out.
Sometimes, it’s better to be LUCKY than good. 🍀 🍺👍

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
@ifthevamzarockin....It should not be difficult to unlock the machine...call a locksmith if you cannot pick it...Cheers, RickO
@ricko
Tried all day to pick the lock.... no luck. Checked with a locksmith they said "no way" Will check with another locksmith, several thing I read online said it can be picked but is very difficult even for a locksmith.
No doubt no an easy pick....but all locks can be picked, just some are more difficult. Get a pick gun...that is a method that can produce results when used correctly. Cheers, RickO
I did better! I found 23 war nickels In 3 customer rolls of nickels.
Sure do love those old mechanical coin slot machines with one payline and straightforward payouts.
The new computerized kind are awful, and for me, completely unplayable.

Awesome!
Can’t wait to see the innards and “regurgitated” coins.
If anyone is curious what an antique Mill's slot key looks like. The lock on the 50 cent machine takes this type of key.
Notice it is double cut and different on both sides. Half of the tumblers need to be pushed up & half need to be pushed down. I have managed to get about half of them in the right place and holding there. There are 8 tumblers per side so that is 16 you have to get just right. I am not a locksmith and have picked very few locks, I drill them or cut them and replace. I can replace the top lock for about $75 but I can't replace the lower lock. From the info I have found this is a tough lock even for an advanced locksmith. I have already picked it it for 5 hours +/- and I think it's winning. I will post an update when the machine is open and a photo of the coins I find in it.
Here ya go the innards of the nickel machine.
Great thread! Good luck getting it open.
its all good stuff. everything I like about this
That is an awesome looking machine!!!

This thread also reminds me of the simple pleasures as a child receiving a war nickel in change. Sometimes even a Mercury dime. Those days are long gone, for sure. What simple pleasure today equals that? I honestly can't think of any.

Got tired of picking so I tried a different type of key.

Found a 1927 S , 1945 D & 1967 plus about $100 in clad.

.
.
Edited to add: It just dropped a 1964 D on a pay out. Thought I would add better photos of the 1945 too.
I got one more!
I was not able to remove the coins from the pay put tube without taking it apart. I knew they would all cycle through if I played it for a while. This is the last one in the machine. I have been thinking about getting a bunch of circulated Franklin's to use in it & a bunch of no date buffalo's for the nickel machine.
Nice!
When I’m old enough where can I find you. Need to win some silver.

No need to wait.....come on over! I make fake ID's at the door.....no age limit at my casino.
That is so cool.
I remember moving 100's of old machines into the warehouse behind the Nugget Casino in Carson back in the late 60's. These were the one armed bandits that had Indian, cowboy and other motifs that were being replaced by newer fancier (but not so ornate) machines. Many had coins in them but I did not dare try to touch......watchful eyes! Then just a few years later the warehouse burned to the ground and we lost all those treasures. There were also full sized cigar store Indians that used to adorn the sidewalk out front on Carson Street. And hundreds of cases of booze and that is why nothing was ever salvaged, all destroyed.
