An idea I have. Would it work?

Take one of the "self slabbing" slabs that the foam insert can be removed. Drill a bunch of small holes through it. Place a couple of small silica gel packets in it. Slide it in your slab storage box. I have checked on some prices and 25 can be made for less than $35.

Just use the packets by themselves! I cut up "Intercept Shield" products and throw them in too.
The same concern I've had about using silica water absorber in a gun safe: Do you draw water out of the atmosphere into the area you're trying to keep dry? Does that do more harm than good?

It would not work. would look awful as well.
Once silica packs fill up with humidity, they then need to be dried out,
In a slab, they would always be full of humidity.
Nope it does not work that way. How useful it is depends on how airtight the storage area is (dessicant can get saturated quickly) but it won't hurt the coins.

I use desiccant in my safe, keeps everything dry.... I have large bags of it....can be oven dried at 200-250 degrees. I have used the same bags for 20 years. Cheers, RickO
Silica gel packs need maintenance, i.e., drying, to be effective. Finding a way to dry the packs without having to remove them from where/what they are keeping dry would be something interesting.
Even portable dehumidifier’s need maintenance, dumping the accumulated water before....
Before I got Intercept boxes that fit my needs, I used the linings of other Intercept boxes I had to line PCGS boxes.

I moved to the desert.
Careful around those pesky dust devils.
I'm moving back to San Diego.
Guess I have to buy an other rain storm recording!
Sounds like solid advise. Thanks.
The thing that appeals to me is that the slab with the dessicant would neatly fit in with the rest of the slabs. You just need to be sure the larger container is air tight.
