Raw And From The Wild 1911 S Barber Half, From England & GTG If You'd Like

This came up in a recent sale and while waiting for my lots got this coin. A bit charming and appears pretty much unmeshed with...Sorry for pictures not being too great.

I'd go AU55 in terms of wear. Could see it in a AU58 for the nice surfaces and luster.
Probably AU55 by current standards.
53-55. Nice pick up. Not a key
but tougher coin to find in XF-AU
Congratulations
Yea, I was thinking 55, bit of rub on the cheek and nose, but reverse with excellent luster. Well, psych, I don't have it graded yet!

I would say 53/55.....a nice old coin that has served well. Cheers, RickO
I wouldn't buy that coin as a 55 from the pictures. If I went either way I would go 50! Being a mostly white coin I'm not seeing the luster for a 55 and it does appear to have light overall wear.
Wow, in hand it sure looks a lot better than a 50, but not a 58 and at least as good as the 55s I've seen. It is not mostly white and has a pleasant original look to it.

Great pull from circulation! I see a bit of remaining luster around the reverse peripheral 👍
I hope you are going to submit it and let us know the results!
Solid 55 to these eyes
55
yes au53
I like it as a 55. It's a real nice coin with a great looking reverse.

Agree with the masses, AU55. Did I read that correctly? Lucky, very lucky. I can't remember getting a Kennedy back in change!
Congrats.
I am In the 55 group.
agreed with above

I think most the 55 votes here are grading the reverse! Go back and take another look at the obverse! I would almost go 58 on the reverse!
Yes, it is better in hand. I will grade it at the Baltimore show just for kicks. I think there is a slight bit of rub on the obverse. I actually like this coin a lot as it has an "honest" something about it; don't care for the bright white uncs aesthetically even if they are more valuable.
As a sidelight, I really like to check out the edge milling and denticles and these look alright without problems.

I love the comments (at least two) that think you got this in change. I guess if you don't read the original post you'll believe what you want to believe.
It might just be my screen resolution. .. What's going on with the stars on the reverse? There looks to be a greenish tinge on one of the stars. Otherwise, I'm in the 55 camp...

Yes, tried to zoom in on it & don't see anything too much except the stars aren't regular but seem to match the few other Barber 50c pieces I have:
Took another of the obverse also:

Yeah, it must be the gremlins in my ancient phone... I don't see anything suspicious on the 2nd image.

The coin might have PVC on it. If it does it will have to be removed to be graded. If it's been on awhile it will effect the surfaces. I gambled on a nice unc that I knew had an old film of PVC on it. It looked a lot like this coin. I removed the PVC with acetone and the surfaces had an unnatural glow about them due to the effects of the PVC. Needless to say PCGS called it cleaned.
Please stop by and show it to me at the Baltimore Coin show! My opinion might change in hand. The rev is a 55. But the obv. IMHO from the picture has light overall wear consistent with a 50-53 grade. This could be PVC giving it that look.
Will do - what is your shop name? I bathed it down in acetone and didn't seem to make a lot of difference...

That is a good thing! My company name is AmeriWorld Coins. I wanted to make sure...Whitman hasn't published the table numbers yet. It would be great to meet you as it seems we have a lot of common interests from your darkside posts!
Is it normal for stars 7 and 8 to be so weakly struck?
Can't believe I couldn't remember! I'm at corner table 455 with Andrew Reiber.
