Completed my Liberty Nickel Set (of coins elongated at the World's Columbian Expo)
These are ATS as PCGS does not certify these (yet??). The last one to complete the date run from 1883 - 1893 (which includes both 1883 types) was the 1885. Did not think I would find one of these, so it found me instead.
Also a big shout out to Dennis Forgue at Harlan Berk. He had one of these, and tracked me down after seeing my set ATS and knowing I needed one. He was not able to figure out who I was during the ANA, but was able to find me here and send me a note (my user name here is the same as ATS).
So, another set that just started as having a few examples has turned into a complete collection. First goal was to complete the date set (which I finally have), Since there are may different elongated dies used, I have now been working towards each date and type (do see this being complete given the difficulty of finding the 85 and 86 coins and 16 different dies in use).

What a fun collection!
Can't be too many 85's that got elongated...
Wow...what a project... Congratulations.....Cheers, RickO
That is amazing!
What a cool idea!
Congratulations on finding the 1885. That had to be a "needle in a haystack" sort of piece.
As for the '85. At the TEC table 2 years ago, they were telling me about an '85 that had to be mint fresh when it was elongated. It appears to be a well known piece.
Earlier this year, the CSNS journal had an elongated Liberty Nickel on the cover. In the story, it was about completing a Liberty nickel set and they found the '86, which was a love token, and the '85 which was elongated. That is the only one I had actually seen a picture of until I got this one.
I still only have one 1883 No Cents (not sure I have seen another). I have one 1886, and was out bidded on another earlier this year.
That is an amazing accomplishment. It would be great to see a photo of all the pieces together.
Congrats, Donato

Cool!
Very cool! I remember selling an 1886 example several years ago on the bst.
Very neat collection. Just curious why it stops at 1893 and not go on thru 1912?
Because time travel hadn't been invented yet in 1893.
Sorry, I didn't notice the last part of the thread title.
And I couldn't resist the opportunity to rub it in.😄
How about a picture of the reverse? I have a couple of those lying around.
Here is the 1885, in holder. One of the more common dies.
That's a distinctly unique and outstanding idea for a very different kind of collection!
Wow, "sweet", congratulations on your accomplishment !!!
That's really cool !
How the heck do you assign a grade to something like that? Throw a dart at a dart board?
Totally agree with you. A coin is literally flattened and elongated and yet it is straight graded?

Very impressive.
Congratulations.
Completing ones goal is always gratifying.
