I am seeing double (stars) on the forum today

A short time ago the layout of the user and post details on each post seems to have changed.
Now it shows the user ID, the # or stars associated with that user's level, then the Post count, then the stars again.
Do we now add up the two sets of stars to get our new star count? 
Is this a test to see who is paying attention? 
Do I get the Bug badge for noticing?

No bug badge for you, but you do get the paying attention badge.
For what its worth, it says "Master Collector" when you hover over your 2nd set of stars.
@JBK weird - I have complained to the forum software company to remove the second set of stars: it 'bugs' me as well.

I don't get this whole star thing, I've been here since 2006, I have over 1500 post, one year I had a real Post of the year nomination in a real active year (My post came in second in voting ((Yes they use to vote on it, I'm not sure if they do now))
I have 289 points (they didn't use points back when I joined)
I have all kinds of badges - 24 for who knows what, I wish they used the old way to send private messages and an indicator that you had a message.
Can someone please tell me what I need to do to get give stars?

Post will do little or nothing for your star count. You need points. You get those mainly by getting likes, agrees, and LOLs. Badges also help.
Gave you a “Like” so that helps to obtain the next level “Like” badge and therefore points.
Click in your name, then scroll down to the badges, click on each badge to get an idea of the hows and whys.
Also, if you click on the “Activity” link it’ll show who got what and why and a bunch of other stuff.
The other stuff is when people post a message thinking it’s a private message (PM) but all their doing is posting on that individuals wall and EVERYBODY can read it. Eye opening! Always know what, where, and who your posting to.
