How many times have you been writing a long post and...Poof!

Insider2Insider2 Posts: 14,452 ✭✭✭✭✭

On three occasions, I have been posting a long answer in a discussion and when I finally get it ready to post, it disappears. At first I think I hit a wrong button but then I see the discussion has been CLOSED. It is VERY frustrating. Now I make a copy of comments I wish to save for future publication in other places.

Have you had the experience of being "closed-out?" I'll start, it's three times for me. Once my post was directed to Laura. I wrote that she would SRO at a FUN program about auctions and wished she would give it a try. The last one was in the crack-out thread. I think my post would have been very informative and very positive (truthful info) for our host but apparently the topic is taboo.

I think one of the moderators is messing with you. ;)

Actually I'm attracted to great discussions with both sides well represented and, more importantly, actually INFORMED by research and experience. Programmed "Sock-puppets" are not welcome!

Sometimes the "truth" is trouble. And IMO, with a physical object like a coin, everything can be seen, measured, and exposed TRUTHFULLY with great precision EXCEPT for its value, desirability, and eye-appeal. :)

Actually, that was my first thought - I'm being tracked - but that is silly, self-aggrandizement, nonsense. No one here is that important and a final warning or the "flag" option is enough of an alert.

With me it is usually I type a long post, get it finished, proof read it, then delete it.

Yes, has happened to me.....I wrote an article to send to the ANA, and post here, regarding the first minting date at the Carson City Mint and it went poof before I could post.
Didn't bother to re-write to either place....gone forever.

    bob :)
PS: once wrote a book and was in the process of editing when the hard drive failed on my computer. Lost 90% of it. Never published it. :(

@Insider2 Ricko has the solution for you :D

That should work. Unfortunately. I'm not a man of few words. You did give me an idea! :) Write a little and post it then continue a little and post it, etc. Trouble is, in a 4-5 part post, the last one is usually very important.

Happens a lot. It's a Forum Bug of some kind. Any comment of mine more than two sentences is always copied before posted to make sure it posts.

?? We may not be writing about the same thing. A seldom seen, BIG, RED, "CLOSED" is NOT A BUG; however it does "bug" me.

Another trick for longer posts is to write them on your computer in your normal word processing program and then cut and paste. Plus, you get a chance to proof read it before posting

It doesn't just happen with "closed". I'm not sure what the list of changes to the thread are that triggers it, maybe multiple other posts? But it happens a lot if you wait too long to post to an active thread.

    Thanks for your input.
So as not to sidetrack my question AS POSTED, I'm ONLY interested in being blocked out of a discussion that was CLOSED BY A PCGS MODERATOR!

Apparently, this has not happened to many members so far.

Well, honestly, how many threads get closed? And what are the odds that you would be posting to one when it got closed? Only the most active - and long-winded - of forumites are likely to ever encounter it.
