1983 Penny appears to have an extra letter

This 1983 Penny appears to have a lower case ( i ) on the obverse under 'Liberty'. Your thoughts please...

    Welcome to the forum @TeaTime.

    Looks like the cent took a hit from something and left a ding.

    Didn’t happen at the US Mint so it’s post mint damage (PMD).

    The marks are plating blisters, as others have said. These are very common on copper plated zinc cents from the 80s.

    Agree with all above.

    It's got copper plating bubble issues.

    It does look like the "Libierty" variety where the "I" slipped down. :)
