COINEX

Received a Baldwin's of St James catalogue yesterday. For a medal collector, Auction 37 is amazing, at least for me. Good thing I won't be there in person; otherwise my assets would never be the same!

They have an app too. Looks like a slightly earlier version of the SB app.

I'm imagining a strict auctioneerix or something

I like your idea of punishment more than mine.

There were 14 medals that caught my attention. I narrowed my choices down to 8. Won only one. :/
At least my finances will be happy. :p

Attended for a little while today. Almost no Canadian (not a surprise), but this has to be ground zero if you collect English coinage. Touched base with Mr. Eureka and had a great time looking at some old and rare coinage.

Any Coinex reports? First time in 5 years I wasn’t there

Just returned from a two week trip around England, Wales and Scotland that started with the Coinex show. I was a little unsure when I got in the taxi from the Airport express train and gave the Biltmore hotel name to the driver and he just looked at me and said he never heard of and needed the address. When we pulled up in front he declared “Oh this is where the Russian was killed”. Beautiful hotel that just reopened. The show was a British coin collectors dream, but not so much for others. Virtually no paper money as the Paper Money Fair in Valkenburg was the same weekend. Saw Mr. Eureka, Larry Stack, ANA Governor Shanna Schmidt and a couple other Americans. Seems to be quite a lot of activity the first day, slower on Saturday. Even a Fire Alarm during the show, which all the dealers ignored. Was a real fire but outside the hotel, the lobby and restaurant was evacuated. Interesting show.

Seems they changed the name...it used to be called the Millennium Mayfair which the driver probably would have known.

On a side question, nothing to do with the show there:
what price ranges is a hotel like this after becoming "soooo Famous?"

Today is the first day of the rest of my life

There was a total remake of the hotel. It is a five star in a very expensive area. That said a single room king bed was £500 a night. Very plush. Never had a toilet (maybe “throne” would apply) that had a remote control unit to run it. Heated seat, air freshener, blow dryer totally unbelievable. More suits walking around checking on everything than I have ever seen. Superb food like lobster scrambled eggs for breakfast. Very nice bar. Hotel far more impressive than the coin show.

I would have choked on 500 pounds sterling a night. But I am a cheap !@#$ I would look for a small hotel or inn that caters more to locals than tourists . I find that more fun when traveling.

I stayed at a motel 6 last night. (just kidding). Sounds like a very nice hotel. Just don't drink the tea.
