Looks like now that some states are going after ST that should have been collected in past years. If successful, what effect could that have on coin/bullion dealers?

No tax on coins & bullion in Nebraska. Ah but our property taxes are some of the highest in the nation, as an aside. And who knows why ? The rest of the world flies over.

Nothing new. NY State did a major push against NJ "residents" thirty years ago. Supposedly, NYS revenue agents walked into Fortuneoff on 5th avenue and slapped a warrant on the counter for "all sales in the NY store over some $ value that were shipped to NJ residents without paying tax".

A little name and address matching and they had a list to send demand letters for the use tax.
Sent the remainder of the list to NJ who send demand letters for their residents.

If you sent it to your friends address in NJ in YOUR name, you got the letter. If you sent it in THEIR name, they got the letter.

I'm not saying I got said letter (trust me I don't move in those brackets). But FoFoFoMP did (Friends of Friends of Friends of My Parents)

retroactive tax collection from out-of-state sellers and marketplace facilitators is unconstitutional. as states continue to have budget shortfalls, will continue to look for ways to get our last dollar

You and about 64,000 of your NY friends moved to Florida last year. Growing trend?

That's really not the point. The ruling would open the door beyond just Amazon.

Most assuredly. Since the article highlighted Amazon, and it was the OP's conjecture and not the tone of the article itself. For now, it is about Amazon.

I LOVE NY. Our roads are mostly half way decent, schools are mostly well funded, a majority of the adults are educated and wear shoes both at work and at home, and a women still has a choice. Smoke that.

I see enough Confederate flag waving up here by Yankees. The kool aid. No need to go see it 10 fold down there. & the irony, I was born in Georgia.

Left and right leaning states are both on board with the internet tax. A simple google search can give you these results.

Imagine if we lived in a country where people educated themselves before throwing stones and spewing partisan political rhetoric.

Hmm... Here in little ole Texas red, thems property taxes are through the roof. I think it is disingenuous to suggest whether a state is blue or red relates to taxation - they all want every penny they can get, they just use different ways to get it..............

Did Amazon, eBay et al agree to collect the ST as a courtesy or has it now become a legal obligation?

So the other half of the roads have potholes. I left NY in 2001 for Florida. The best two things are:

    1. No state income tax.
    2. You don’t have to shovel sunshine.

    Steve 😁

    And,
    3. You don't have to wear shoes.

    1. And how’s the Homeless situation throughout California?
    2. And how’s the Sanctuary City/State situation where the needs of people here illegally, especially those being released from police custody, are placed above the needs of California residents here legally.
    3. And who is to say that our current system of taxation is not currently fair, when the top 1% of people by income provide about 37% of the total revenue collected by individual income taxes, and the bottom 50% of people by income provide only about 3% of the total individual income taxes collected by the federal government? Seems pretty fair to me! Take a look at the high tax rates paid by middle income families in Europe, and tell me how our tax system is not fair!

California has exceptionally mild weather. The homeless can sleep outside without freezing to death.

Sanctuary cities are awesome as they protect families, Jesus would be proud.

Income inequity in the US is at an all-time high or close to it? Yes, the super-rich Need to taxed waaaaay more.

Not only that, in California they do fundraisers for the homeless, to keep them homeless by stopping low income housing projects.

Some of the homeless live in parks and the parks are considered dangerous at night now.

Yikes sorry guys looks like I opened a can. Don’t believe Amazon is collecting tax but will check that out. eBay has a roll out plan on its site with dates for each state. So EBay is collecting and that is ok but does no alleviate liabilities to anyone on the issue.

Here is a coin to ponder as we complain about taxes
