Helping someone liquidate a collection, some general questions

DD Posts: 1,997 ✭✭✭

Like the title said, I'm currently helping someone liquidate a collection from their recently deceased relative. The collection primarily consists of the standard ICG MS69 or MS70 First Strike ASEs and a handful of gold bullion coins, but it also has some neat silver 1oz ingots from 1973 that I don't know anything about, some classic gold, and a couple of foreign commems. I've attached photos and I welcome any feedback on the coins and ingots. As far as the ICG bullion, is there any premium for the plastic?

Thank you.

Best,
Daniel.

Looks like your description is accurate. All your 1 oz silver pieces are simply bullion. The gold BU coins may need to be encapsulated here to achieve max value. You can look up the specific dates. No premium I can see. I'd say try looking things up on E-Bay (click sold listings) for general value information. E-Bay may well be the place you should liquidate.

As always, never clean anything in any way.

And your pictures are decent enough for E-bay listings.

Yeah, that was kind of my thought, it's charity work for me and I was mostly worried about letting someone down that their relative had collected stuff from latenight television that was scarcely worth more than melt.

That said, I think the ingots are really neat.

    Best,
    Daniel

Wish that 1915 half eagle was an "S" mint. That would be a jackpot coin.

Daniel, I'm a bit of a silver art bar collector.
If your looking to liquidate the lot I'd be interested.

    PM sent.
Along with a place to look up the gold in case you have a low mintage dated piece.

The Panama silver coin dated 1970 was offered by The Franklin Mint in popular mass circulation magazines of the day (like Look or Life magazines) and over 2 million pieces were sold. However, it is heavy and it is 92.5% fine or sterling silver quality. It has an actual silver weight of 1.06 Troy ounce. Worth perhaps $18 to $22. I have handled several pieces in the blue folder/holder during estate liquidations.

Nice silver bars... you may get some interest on the PM forum... several bar collectors over there. I like that 1915 Indian gold....one of my favorite coins... Good luck with your sales. Cheers, RickO

Generally, I would not liquidate bullion on ebay. The fees are higher than dealer bid/ask spread. Expect 98% of melt and shop to dealers until they meet or beat that price

It is what it is. Thin margins. Get to work. PM for help if necessary. And the gold is a great little group.

Since a lot is ordinary bullion and US gold is a glut right now, I think you'd do as well with a good dealer and not have to mess with eBay and its fees.
