Canadian Nickels

I have a number of pre 1983 Canadian nickels (made out of actual nickel). They are worth between 8 and 9 cents each (US). Is there someplace (I am in Los Angeles) where I can get melt value for them, like you can with bullion value silver coins?

I save them myself, but good luck finding a smelter that will deal with non-pre 1965 silver coinage. The US mint issued a prohibition on melting nickels and cents, so people are going to presume that applies to Canadian coinage also.

The RCM is recovering older coinage and melting it though. It is legal when a Crown corporation does it.

You would probably need a ton (literally) of them for anyone to be willing to pay any kind of decent price.

Sell them to someone else who thinks hoarding nickel coins is a good investment. ;)

    BTW, I save them, too.
