History Chanel Modern Marvels.....coin related
I've been collecting coins for more than 20 years and still learning about coins. This morning's Modern Marvels' is about Welding and I learned this morning that the US Mint's most coins blank/planchets was supplied by DuPont back in the 60's and DuPont used "Explosion Welding" . I didn't know there is such a way as explosion welding. I bought a tig welder for almost a year now and I haven't use it (I don't know how) and been putting off how to use it and learn how to weld. Just thought I'd share Modern Marvel's this morning (they mention US Mint's coins twice in the episode).

Agree @Knell. That was an excellent episode on welding and especially “explosive welding” for pre-coin making.
Also, did not realize that Dupont is one of the providers that uses this technique for the Mint.
I think past tense is key here. I don't believe DuPont is in that business anymore.

I do not watch much TV, but that sounds interesting... will look for it when I get a chance... Cheers, RickO
Pretty cool.
Tig is good to start learning with. It forces you to develop skills you wouldn't get using a mig.
