I had to PARDON a couple of them

I know, I know.....don't clean em. this was only an experiment. I was feeling Presidential so I pardoned a few of these crusties destined for the trash. Picked a couple super commons that looked like they might be decent under the filth. Picked one copper and one clad. I know if you ever see me you will punch me in the eye and take my loupe.

I won't take your loupe.....look better to me but am glad they were not worth much anyway.

The coins shown above were worth the same amount before the harsh cleaning as they were after the harsh cleaning.

This is what it feels like to me after I spend 10 minutes looking around on Ebay.

The only loss with this cleaning are the cleaning materials :)

I would soak the entire batch in ammonia for a month and be in the pink. :D

I'm hard-pressed to think of where those coins were found. :|

I’d just spend the crusty coins.

But the experimenting did no harm.

Interesting results.... they turned out bright and shiny... of course, they will now and forever wear the label 'cleaned'. Cheers, RickO

  • i love 1960's cents. they have the deepest cleanest strikes that hold up over time.
the 95 looked in good condition even under the crud. after cleaning it it is indeed a very nice example with no major flaws at all.

it was a filthy coin that gets discarded on the first pass through the rolls and never thought of again. i guess i have a hard time understanding making something nice to look at when it comes to coins. that real diamond in the rough idea. I get the collector viewpoint. they want the 60 years or so of handling and natural aging.

well i have a very nice 95 cent anyway even if it will never be worth more than one cent.

And dollar in change that someone would appreciate.

Having sent rolls and roll of unc Cents from the 1960s to Coinstar in recent years, all I can say is "go kid yourself".

With NO significant market for nice original coins, cleaning same dates that have been well-circulated is pointless.

This forum has serious collectors, OP is not going to be able to fool them.

How do you "Pardon a Coin"??? A coin is an inanimate object.

The way I read it is that he’s throwing the pile in the trash and kept a few out to clean.

Perhaps I have heard somebody use the term 'reprieved', but the coin in question was much much earlier.
