1916 Mercury Dime

I tried to put it in black & white, I’ll send higher definition when I can, but I couldn’t believe everyone’s non-reaction when I tried to show this the first time, but now I do. I need a better picture, but this 1916 is better than anything I’ve seen graded and the only flaw is the doubling on in God We Trust and the date. Otherwise, it’s never been touched.. I’ll try to take a better picture, but I put it black & white I guess for comparison.

why is altering the picture necessary?

That image isn't much better than a pencil drawing. :/

Why not just send it into be graded and then you can show us your finest-ever-graded 1916 dime?

P.S. - "never been touched" does not mean a coin is perfect or close to it. Most coins leave the press room in less than perfect condition.

I would expect full split bands on a perfect coin.

let us know the results. Can't tell from the pic.

Yes, but are we sure this is not a blue clay silver branch mint reverse proof?

Recap of the train wreck at 9:00 pm. :D

That was the Comstock load found in the 1860,s-70’s & was used on first made silver dollars. The headline actually says blue clay & they at first were washing it away because they were mining for gold. It came out to be the purist form of naturally found silver ever! Ignorance is a choice.....

  • Thanks to all who constructively helped, I will try today to take a better picture I borrowed my brother’s canon 24mb. Maybe it’ll help. I completely agree with what y’all said & the 68FB is by my naked eye the best it looks like.... though my human faults remain...

you may have a nice coin there but here is the bar ;)

    68FB

    67FB

    66FB

This was the highest definition I could take outside the coin holder wearing gloves. The best quality I see above the others is mine does not appear to have any coloration & the back is at 3 o’clock.

Much better photos! To be able to see the fine points in grading between a MS-67 & 68 would require a little better photos. Keep trying :)

@Gavenadam1 do you think that "mine does not appear to have any coloration" is a good thing?

What do you mean by "the back is at 3 o’clock"?

From your latest pictures, I a nice dime that's worth something less then $50. As several others have already said, you could certainly pay to get this slabbed. Getting this slabbed will cost about $50 including all shipping fees, and then you'll have the same dime in plastic that's still worth something less than $50.

Sorry but I’m seeing a 64, much better photos though.

Grading is more than just lack of marks.

MS66 taste on an MS63 budget.

The subject coin doesn’t appear to be one which is relevant in trying to distinguish between a 67 and a 68. Or for that matter, between two other grades anywhere close to those.

Just a little bit of positive reinforcement for a much improved effort. ;)

    Just checking.

Are you saying it’s a rotated die?

I don't want to contribute to any bubble bursting, but an MS65 CAC 1916 can be had for under $200. I think it's a great looking coin, but not rare, not valuable, and not difficult to acquire on the cheap in high grades. Also, speculating about ungraded coins is not a good use of your energy. All we can see are (I assume) cell phone pictures. I hope you do get it graded and I hope it receives a monster high grade, but I'm confused why you were expecting a more enthusiastic response?

He probably either thinks the coin is of much higher quality than it is, or is having fun with us.

The coin is AU and may have been cleaned as well.

    All glory is fleeting.
