Freedom * Friendship * Charity
Welcome.
The Improved Order of Red Men is a non-profit organization devoted to inspiring a greater love for the United States of America and the principles of American liberty. Along with our women's auxiliary, the Degree of Pocahontas, we support various charitable, youth, and educational programs.
The Texas Redmen Foundation, Inc. maintains the Red Men Museum and Library. It is the national museum for the Improved Order of Red Men (IORM) and the Degree of Pocahontas (D of P) and contains reference materials, archival holdings, and exhibits of historical significance. The Museum and Library is open to the public without cost. You are invited to stop by and look around if you are visiting in the area.
The national office is currently also in Waco, Texas, as is the Great Council of Texas state office.
We hope you enjoy your visit with us here on the web and we welcome any comments or questions.

The fraternity traces its origins back to 1765 and is descended from the Sons of Liberty. These patriots concealed their identities and worked "underground" to help establish freedom and liberty in the early Colonies. They patterned themselves after the great Iroquois Confederacy and its democratic governing body. Their system, with elected representatives to govern tribal councils, had been in existence for several centuries.
After the War of 1812 the name was changed to the Society of Red Men and in 1834 to the Improved Order of Red Men

A. Gavron was a butcher who was a woman. Woman merchants are not very common in the Civil War token series.

How about some context?
Copper and bronze were favored materials during the early 20th century "Arts & Crafts" movement.
So from the period of roughly 1890 to 1915: Craftsman Studios, Old Mission Kopperkraft, Avon Coppersmiths, Shreve & Co., and Joseph Heinrichs.
And of course, 1901 Hermon MacNeil by Gorham

This finally arrived and just imaged it. Weird so many scratches as the seller just had it slabbed and sent to me.

I must admit I won this at an auction, simply because I liked it. Don’t know much about it either
