A little help please.....

I purchased the book Early California Counters by L.B. Fauver
Oak Grove Publications 1991.
.
.
I have purchased several of his pieces but this particular one in his book says that this is an R10
See below.
.
.
.
.
.This has been graded by NGC and I do agree with the designation as it is 4mm thick........Question is if this is an R10
shouldn't my coin and the one in the book be one in the same?
.
Or for obvious reasons there are at least 2 off them. Granted I have never came across another.
.
Third reason is that I am not interpreting the R10 designation.

They are the same coin...to my eyes at least
Depends on the Rarity Scale meaning of R-10 for these pieces.
Also the internet made more things crawl out of the woodwork since 1991.
Most all books written on any series are obsolete once printed.
Good catch as the plated copy just lost some detail being Xeroxed.

I stare at it side by side for 3 days........you see it in 2 minutes. Then I see it....Ha!!
Thanks. Well it might make sense that he would have it for his book.
R10 meaning unique is very nice but some R8 pieces brink $4k.
This one id prolly worth $400-500
.
What through me off is what looks like a weak strike on COUNTER.
Thanks again

I guess it was bad lighting in the photos in the book.
Congrats having the plate coin.

What purpose were these produced for? I'm not familiar with them?

During the gold rush period in California these were used in casinos.
Others, such as the Kettle from Birmingham was the first to make copies of the half and quarter gold eagles.
Some were made here some in Germany.
If you do a search for A Few Spiel Marke Tokens, Kettle Tokens. Gaming and Gold Rush Tokens
You’ll see many different designs.
