Admittedly; sometimes I purchase, and then learn, rather than learn first, and use that knowledge to make an informed purchase...

This particular coin I bought through auction; more of an impulse buy. I didn't know much about the Redfield hoard, how the coins were graded, and what sort of premium are attached to these coins. I paid a bit more than what coin is probably worth.

Apparently, red label coins are all graded MS65, and the black at MS60. These tend to be graded higher on the label than what the technical grade truly is...my 1887-S graded MS65 really is closer to a high end MS63.

Here is some info on the hoard:

Post your Redfield, or, comment. Thanks.

I like your coin. Have owned maybe a dozen of the redfield dollars. Most grade ms63 or so but I have seen a few that were graded MS66 by NGC,

These coins mainly sold on the provenance, and that has never interested me. Are those 'pockmarks' on the obverse on the coin or holder? Or are they dirt/dust? Cheers, RickO

Those would be bag marks, sadly, and why it's not a 65.

The Redfield Morgans are special coins for a lot of reasons, but the holders are the coolest thing about them in my opinion. Nice example. I will have to pull a couple of mine out and show them off sometime.

That's much more 65 looking than most marked 65. Decent coin

Nice coin. I would ride my bicycle by the Redfield Mansion quite often as a young man. Love the Redfield Dollars.

1882-S NGC MS63. It came from here:

Yes, sadly it's not a 65, but the good news is it's not a proof :#

Here is my 1926-S Peace Redfield Hoard dollar. It is about MS64 quality. Toning is superb around inside rim- just cant capture. :|

I agree 63 on the 87s and 62 on the Peace. Never owned one in a Redfield holder. Congrats!
