Shield nickel countermark assistance

Namvet69Namvet69 Posts: 9,407 ✭✭✭✭✭

Dug an AG shield nickel with a countermark.
After an acetone dip, the dirt dissolved to reveal that the countermark looks to be 2 countermarks. One is the square with lines and a star in the center while the other is a teardrop shape over the right side of the first one. I went to my lcs for his opinion and to check his reference library. He has a copy of American & Canadian Countermarked Coins by G. Brunk. Great book, lots of images and info but didn't find either mark. Maybe someone here recognizes either mark. Closeups attached. Peace Roy

I looked at this again... could the marks on/around the 'box with star) be the result of a die clash?? They seem to be under the stamp. Cheers, RickO

I always ask @howards when it comes to shield nickels. Haven't seen him post in a while though.

I think this is the website he has on his signature line. Not sure if it is his website.

The teardrop shape looks to be part of the shield nickel design.

Of course, it is the leftmost white stripe. I thought that was obvious.
